I read that on another message board, so take it with a grain of salt, but it sounds about right to me. As I understand it we lost 28 to the portal but picked up 10, a difference of -18.  Maybe we gave a few schollies to walk ons, IDK, but there is a discrepancy of 4 there.

So...we might as well already be on major probation.

Maybe we can sell the NCAA on this being a self-imposed penalty?

But then this might help.

We could perhaps recruit 32 next year, that would help get the numbers up. Having said that, a bunch of new recruits are not 1:1 with veterans leaving, but it will help.

Don’t forget we also gave up a bowl game last season, too. Not that we really earned it or anything, but we did give it up. Sell that and the scholarship limitations to the NCAA and call it a day. They’re a worthless, powerless entity at this point anyway.

It's really incredible. I don't follow recruiting and the off-season as closely as I did 20 and 30 years ago, but I still feel like this team is full of strangers. I find myself referring to a roster repeatedly during the games to see who's who. So much turnover. I wish the transfer portal would die a very quick death.

Yes, but so far that's been one-sided. Maybe next year will be less so.

Same here on the roster, I don't know at least half the team, though after a couple games I'm getting there.

As for the portal dying a death, I wouldn't be sad to see it go, but it's here to stay.  But maybe it can be modified a bit to limit it more than it currently is.
