They will go with Bama because of the Hooker injury. Would we beat Bama without Hooker? Nope. Probably not.

Based on what I read....Sugar Bowl picks the highest ranked team not going to the playoffs.

Bama losing 2 games on the road by a total of 5 points and UT getting manhandled by UGA and dog whipped by unranked USC is gonna hurt us.

The Orange Bowl would be a very good consolation prize, imo.

I want the easiest path to 11 wins. If that's the Weedwhacker Bowl, so be it.

Phil is correct. The Sugar Bowl takes the highest-ranked SEC team not going to the playoffs. It will be Alabama. Should it be? Hell no. In no world should Alabama be ranked ahead of Tennessee. But it is what it is. We absolutely shizzle the bed against South Carolina and there are repercussions for a loss like that.

But we're still going to get an excellent bowl invite. There aren't many bad places to spend New Year's in Florida.

As I understand it they get the first pick, but they aren’t obligated to take the highest ranked team.

I don’t know if they’re contractually obligated but it’s what they commit to…for the SEC. (They actually take the conference champ first if that team isn’t in the CFP). For the Big 12, they take the team with the best regular season record. I have no idea why it’s different for each conference.

I think it’s likely to be us vs. Clemson in the Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl still does have to pick a Big Ten team before its current contract with the conferences expires in 2025 in order to fulfill its obligation to the Big Ten. Would they choose  Penn State over us? Probably not, but possibly (we entered this week ranked 10th while Penn State was 11th). If so there’s no way the Citrus is passing us over so we probably face Purdue or Illinois there.

They are not ranked ahead of us quite yet.  Let's see what the official CFP shows tonight.

Shows Bama.

As I've said the committee is hedging themselves in the event that TCU and USC both lose and they put OSU and Bama in. They want Bama-Young in over UT-Milton.

It would absolutely SUCK if bammer made it in yet again. Now in addition to being the first to make after losing to the other team (LSU 2011) and the first non-conference champion (2017) they get to be the first two loss team in the playoffs, and first in contention since LSU 2007(and only second ever).  That's just a fizzleing joke.  They have gotten way too many second chances over the years.  If I never see those ugly crimson turd helmets in the playoffs again, I will be very very happy.

Seriously though, why not Bammer vs VOLS in the Sugar?  That would be H-U-G-E

Only if Bryant sits out    No desire for a rematch here w/o Hooker

But...I don't think its contracturally possible since it has to be B12 vs SEC

Just remember, when it goes to a 12 team playoff, there will be a few 2 and 3 loss teams in the playoff. Do they deserve to be playing for a title? They've already proven they aren't the best teams. I can't wait for fans heads to explode when the SEC get 4-6 teams in the playoff.

It doesn't matter.  Once you go to a true playoff, anyone can win by definition.  The NY Giants went 9-7 and snuck in with a wild card, but got hot at the right time and beat the undefeated Brady-Moss Patriots in the Super Bowl (thank God!).

In theory a 2 or even 3 loss team could win the NC.  That would go against tradition, but you could hardly argue they didn't earn it.
