I love the picture of Gus in the end zone when Seivers caught the pass that beat the tiglets. The caption says that he was holding a briefcase full of cash.

I kept track of Gus via Monica Warren on Twitter and that is where I learned of his passing

I met him once at a basketball game, the stories are TRUE

Gus graduated from Rule High School around the same time as my Dad and Mom. He might have been a year ahead of Dad -- he was friends with much of my family, especially my uncle Joe Caldwell.  A good man who was admired by all.

So glad I’m old enough that I was able to experience Gus, Haywood Harris, Bill Anderson, and of course Ward.  They just don’t make them like that anymore.

My voices of my youth are gone….. and it sucks.  I think it is why I enjoy the folks who take the modern clips and put Ward’s voice over so much.
