It seems to me that the NCAA is in quite a pickle. If they continue on this path, they?re going to lose in court, which will probably be their death knell. If they back off it reveals them as toothless and useless, which also portends their end. I?m guessing Mr. Baker now wishes he had answered that call from area code 865 back in December. |

I'm telling you NIL and the transfer portal are the devil. Any time you get that much money and the talent that comes with it involved, you are going to get shady dealings. It's just human nature to try to get an advantage. When has UT ever been choirboys? As much as it's a given they "all" cheat, we have had our fair share of incidents. But being typical fans it is all good if we win and we try to gloss over the bad stuff. I would rather be a little shady and win than be holier than thou and lose.
There is no cheating now. The Supreme court set the players free. They can make deals with anybody they want to. Just like we can. |

I think the leak was in response to the letter While I don?t think they were directly coordinated, I think the University?s and Spyre?s actions were not performed in a vacuum Also, judging by the fierceness of the University response is a clear indication that the ncaa ?investigation? was a,witch hunt, not conducted in good faith and retroactively applying their ill considered rulings Oh, and Baker blew them off |

I agree. They knew this was coming, I think. The draft of Donde?s letter has probably been written for a while. I believe that the Tennessee/Virginia response was planned well before the Forde and NYT leaks yesterday. |

Week 1 Summarry of the war between Indy and The Hill
Tennessee officials met with the ncaa "enforcement" team in Indy on Monday.
Tennessee was VERY upset (you could say PO'd) with the tone and potential charges discussed, even though not one (1) Tennessee coach or staff member had been found to have done anything wrong
The ncaa then "moved the goalposts to fit the non crime into a crime by applying a NEW rule to actions BEFORE the rule was published.
This activity was at odds with the ncaa?s Presidents public remarks on the issue.
The REAL issue is that the ncaa HATES Spyre and similar agents and collectives (really the agency part of the equation).
The Chancellor finished writing her letter to the ncaa President (I think it started when he blew off she and Danny) and finished vetting it with the in house lawyers and then sent it.
The letter was VERY direct and included language clearly indicated the school?s position.
My view is then the ?enforcement? team then leaked it to their pet PAID leakers in the national media.
Then the University released the letter to the public post the (I believe) expected leak.
Spyre released the NICO story via Tom Mars, noted for usually winning against the ncaa.
They also used the issue as a fund drive for the Volunteer Club.
The ncaa released a statement on the issue that was against THEIR rules
Also showing how clueless they really are.
Then Danny White released his statement.
While the Chancellor?s letter was direct it retained the niceties of correspondence at that level.
Danny?s statement was more inline with a fans perspective
The TN and VA AG?s lawsuit is a separate issue.
It attacks some of the related battleground but goes much more directly at the core NIL issue.
It has been in the works for some time. I think TRO and droner will agree that it takes time to develop the package that was submitted this week.
The asked for a TRO is probably the most serious near term threat to the ncaa.
It is expected that the inital exchange of motions and the inital hearing will occur this month.
Meanwhile, the ncaa remains SILENT on the REAL issue, which is TAMPERING!

So you must be one of the ones who preach the Vols have never cheated and never will. I'm sorry to break it to you...they do. They just aren't as good at getting by with it as the other guys. A slap on the wrist doesn't mean much. When they start giving out bowl bans is when it starts to suck. This will probably end up being a nothing burger. Does any school really know the NIL rules? That's the big problem.

The ncaa wanted someone else to set the rules for them (e.g. Congress) but I suspect in the end the Courts will do that for them
