Huntsville is the double A team, Salt Lake City is the triple A
I know zero about how the MLB minor leagues work...my guess is that a no. 8 draft pick would go AAA, but I have no idea
Unlikely he starts out in AAA. But high-end college draftees usually advance pretty quickly if it?s evident that they?re ready for MLB. He?ll probably start out in A, but if he?s raking there, they?ll move him up after a few weeks. And ditto for the upper levels. In fact, he could skip over AA or AAA altogether. Depending on the Angels? need at the MLB level, he could be in Anaheim by this time next year. |

I think he starts in A ball
Wooden bat adjustment and all that
But I suspect he will be in at least AA quickly
If he performs well, backfill AAA at the end of the year when they are called up to the show
I doubt he gets to the show, even for a cup of coffee this year
I think he will hit
Biggest issue is defense and what position they believe he will perform best in.
I believe he could end up in left for a trial at some point
He doesn't have the speed for CF or the arm for RF
I know he played SS for us at the beginning of the season but IMO he doesn't have the range or arm for SS in pro ball.
Right side of the infield is best for him in my view
One other thing that could hold him back is he is slow out of the box. Once he gets going, descent speed but it takes hin awile to get there.
Cost us a few times this year
Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE C-Mo fan and think he will be a good player in the majors
But as good as he is he has some things to work on in the minors first

I keep hearing this about needing to work on defense, but I saw him make amazing plays every time he played this year.
He did make an occasional error.
To be fair, I only saw 5 or 6 games this year, so not a great sample, but my impression was that he was one of the better defensive players in the infield, if not the best. I was at times underwhelmed by the SS and 3rd baseman.

I keep hearing this about needing to work on defense, but I saw him make amazing plays every time he played this year.
He did make an occasional error.
To be fair, I only saw 5 or 6 games this year, so not a great sample, but my impression was that he was one of the better defensive players in the infield, if not the best. I was at times underwhelmed by the SS and 3rd baseman.
In the post season he had at least 4 serious issues with his defense I was fortunate to see almost a third of the wins and 2-3 of the losses in person this year - one I think was due to his leg injury (reason I think Antigua went in the next inning on defense) I will say that whoever (I think Coach E) is responsible for scouting and defensive positioning is damn good and helps the defenders, including C-Mo look good Also, watching on TV you get no clue how involved Tony is in positioning the defense - I think his most animated moments is positioning the defense - in the Supers I think, literally right before a pitch he was jumping up and down screaming and pointing and he moved the CF to his left 2-3 steps and that made the difference in a nice catch being made |

He?s a bit limited range-wise (so is Curley, FTM. He played SS out of necessity, but he likely moves to 3B next year). Remember, an average defender will often make a ?great play? on a ball that a Gold Glover makes look routine. We gave up a lot of seeing-eye hits through the infield this year. That?s a telltale sign that we were somewhat limited out there. |
