51  Sports / VTTW Message Board / All part of the long con. on: October 05, 2013, 11:10:57 EDT
By the 4th quarter UGA is going to get complacent.  Then Worley drops the hammer.

You know you're having a tough season when 3-17 at the half isn't all that disappointing.
52  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Are we wearing Underoos? NM on: October 05, 2013, 09:36:15 EDT

53  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Maybe Germans but here's a Buzzfeed on Kiffin. on: September 28, 2013, 05:15:41 EDT
Years later I still want him to suffer more.

56  Sports / VTTW Message Board / In our frustration, let's not forget that this is a young man on: September 21, 2013, 11:16:05 EDT
trying his best.  His failure in his first start is much harder on him than any of us.
57  Sports / VTTW Message Board / My new theory. on: September 21, 2013, 11:03:28 EDT
Our entire offense received Dear John text messages from their girlfriends this morning.  No one has their head in the game.
58  Sports / VTTW Message Board / No. That's enough misery for anyone. We are so lucky to be down by 3. NM on: September 21, 2013, 11:01:57 EDT

59  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I'm going with The Longest Yard theory. NMTC on: September 21, 2013, 10:51:34 EDT

60  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Ya, the offensive line is mailing it in. What the heck is going on? nm on: September 21, 2013, 10:50:04 EDT
Nm
61  Sports / VTTW Message Board / That play looked like something from The Longest Yard. Maybe on: September 21, 2013, 10:48:41 EDT
it wasn't a trick play but instead the O line rebelling like they did against Burt Reynolds.
62  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I'm afraid you guys are right. I bet he can do better than he's showing on: September 21, 2013, 10:45:13 EDT
but even so he seems unlikely to get in the groove.
63  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Come on defense. Score some more points. on: September 21, 2013, 10:31:30 EDT
Nm
64  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Way too soon. Give the guy a chance and then some. Especially on: September 21, 2013, 10:26:19 EDT
this season, which should be about developing the team.
65  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Rough start for Peterman. Hopefully he won't lose on: September 21, 2013, 10:16:26 EDT
confidence, settle down, and show Florida what he can do.
66  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Done. on: September 20, 2013, 05:00:31 EDT
He's in the lead but not out of reach.  Sure have been a lot of votes.
67  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Halftime wasn't so bad. on: September 15, 2013, 01:38:26 EDT
now if we just expand on that strategy.
68  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Reminds me of Steve Martin finding his name in the phone book on: September 09, 2013, 02:38:38 EDT
and Oregon waiting to play the role of the sniper.
69  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Uh, no. Well, at least I don't feel unlucky, just stupid. Also, on: September 01, 2013, 01:01:50 EDT
I should question our decision to dump cable this year as I can't even stream ESPN3 without a subscription.

Oh well, the boys are having fun bouncing around here and Alabama versus Vatech is sort of suspenseful.
70  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Dang it. This sports bar/restaurant has 20 plus TV's on: September 01, 2013, 12:51:34 EDT
but no ESPN 3.  Here with the kids and it's too late to change.   Shoulda gone to Hooters.
71  General Boards / PolitiVOL / Reading this thread - well, I really ended up skimming and later skipping - but on: May 02, 2013, 02:34:17 EDT
anyway, reading this thread was like being transported back to 1998.

Which was pretty cool, because that was a great year to be a Vol and while this debate wasn't good for much else, IMO, it did bring back good Vol  memories.

Thanks guys.
72  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Not confident, but I think we're in with 20. on: March 15, 2013, 11:28:10 EDT
Hope.  The refuge for those who didn't do.
73  Sports / VTTW Message Board / One thing I find interesting about the coach search on: December 07, 2012, 04:21:26 EST
is how fast it is supposed to be.  What has it been, three weeks now, not counting preliminary time?  Heck, most corporate boards would still be working on getting the search committee together.

Yes, I understand why, given the reality of recruiting, but the extreme time pressure must make it:

1.  Quite difficult to do a competent hiring job.  The time to do all the components of a properly done search, plus negotiations is unheard of in any other field.
2. Much more a matter of luck that we get the right coach as there is little likelihood that the AD can really do all the steps correctly in such a short timeframe.
3.  Likely that unless the AD gets lucky fast, desperation will dramatically increase the likelihood of an unwise hire and at a higher price.

It makes me wonder if, given the daily increasing probability that the above factors will contribute to Hart overpaying for a head coach who won't work out anyway - with another multimillion dollar buyout, would we actually be better off biting the bullet on a recruiting year so we can take a collective chill pill and let Hart take his time?

Just a thought.  Not really serious.

74  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I don't know much on: December 05, 2012, 02:05:28 EST
But I will be very happy with picking up Charlie Strong as our head coach.  If this is true, great job Hart.
75  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I'm not so sure I like it. on: November 19, 2012, 05:54:13 EST
If this means he already has a great short list of likely willing candidates, great.  But if not:

1.  A search firm can have conversations he cannot.  Failure to use one limits how the dance can be played.
2.  A search firm gives you a lot more bandwidth to conduct the search so you can move faster and are less tempted to take the easy short cut.  As much as Hart may prioritize this hire, he still has unavoidable demands.
3.  People who do searches (if you get the right one) have deep skill sets relevant to a search Hart surely does not.  Again, if Hart already has a Gruden on the line, that doesn't matter.  But if he is out to fish, I'd rather he hired professional fishermen to help rather than go it alone with his cane pole.
