Is this even allowed?


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee’s Jeremy Pruitt is going back to the future this spring, experimenting with players moving from offense to defense, and vice versa.

 Among the players changing positions for the start of spring drills:

• Junior Tyler Byrd moving to defensive back from receiver

• Junior Carlin Fils-aime moving from tailback to cornerback

• Redshirt sophomore Jay Blakely moving from defensive end to tight end

 Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer commonly used players on both sides of the ball when they arrived at Tennessee, looking to see when and where position changes made sense.

 NFL All-Pro Jason Witten was recruited to Tennessee as a defensive end, while other future Tennessee NFL stars like Fred Weary and Scott Wells changed sides of the ball successfully.

 Pruitt said Thursday has the same intentions as Fulmer once did, to maximize the roster talent.

“We actually have several guys that probably are going to work in different spots the first half of spring and then see where it’s at,” Pruitt said on Thursday, “and then we’re gong to give them an opportunity to play another spot if we don’t feel comfortable with where they’re at.”

The Vols open spring drills on March 20 and will hold the annual Orange and White Game on April 21.

 Pruitt said Blakely will work at tight end the first seven days of spring practice, and likewise for Byrd and Fils-aime.

 Pruitt was no specific with which defensive back position Byrd would play.

 Position alignment

 Tennessee redshirt freshman defensive end Ryan Thaxton recently announced on Twitter he’d be playing linebacker, but Pruitt explained that’s not really a position change.

“A 4-3 defensive end,” Pruitt said, “is an outside linebacker for us.”

The Vols will be using a 3-4 defense, Pruitt said, but the plan is to stay multiple to there will still be some 4-3 looks

But the time change Florida is gonna keep is DST...which we're going to tomorrow. 

I agree with year-round DST, by the way. It would make for a ridiculously late sunrise in the winter, but I'm not a morning person so that's okay with me. I hate early darkness...sunset at 6:30 instead of 5:30 in December sounds good to me. There's another move afoot that would eliminate DST entirely, which I would hate to see.

Tennessee also has a bill in the works that would mean year-round DST, btw. It's bogged down in committee and unlikely to pass this year, but if Congress approves Florida's bill, it could be revived next year.

I've been hoping if Florida makes the change then others states will follow. One article I read said if Florida makes the change it might bring all the panhandle into the eastern time zone....The panhandle west of Tallahassee is currently on the central zone. I hope Tennessee goes forward with this and was disappointed it fell through last time.....IIRC the major issues was folks in East Tn. that work in Georgia and vice versa it would be a major confusion issue? Maybe now if Florida goes through with it Georgia will follow through.

You had to ruin my day reminding me of the time change!!! I freaking hate the time change and this one tomorrow is the worse. I've read several articles that Florida is on the verge of keeping the same time all year round and it looks like it will pass. I lived in Florida for several years....I just might move back just for the time thing. Makes zero sense changing the time.

Would not bet a solid quarter on the game tonight....Just wouldn't. I know our history all to well.

Vols Drop Midweek Contest to James Madison

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. –  Tennessee struggled to get the bats going and was unable to slow down James Madison in a 21-2 loss on Wednesday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

If I was a player, I'd rather have the accolades from the coaches than from the press.

Yep by far. The clueless media types are the ones that picked them to finish 13th in the conference.

 

He needs to stop complaining to the refs. I know he's frustrated but it's not helping him. I'm convinced the refs look at complainers with a jaundiced eye.

Yep!!! I umpired baseball on the high school...American Legion and college level for many years. The batters that complained about my strike zone better swing from the nose to the ankles because if they didn't I'd ring them up. Didn't take them long to not complain any longer. 

Maybe when we get to the NCAA tourney GW will get better treatment from the refs.

I read this morning that Reggie White is coming down too and being replaced by Jason Witten.

I vote they put up droners favorites wine list up there.......If there's enough room.

 

Amazing season! It proves you don't have to have a team of 5 stars and one and dones to play good basketball. A team with good BB IQ and hard workers that buy in to good/great coaching can win a lot of games....It's been proven over the years with teams from the mid-majors that have good seasons and goes deep in the Dance.

Looks like we are playing tight....Wonder if knowing they have to win to be SEC co-champions has put some pressure on them? UGA averages six 3 pointers per game and they have 7 already the first half. Then add the fact we've been cold and at times looked like the LVs and couldn't make a 5 footer.

Word is Pruitt might be bringing up to 4 more graduate transfer and the word is they all will be offensive linemen. Pruitt knows we need major help on the OL.

We finally got some sunshine and a crystal clear day here in the Western part of the state but it's too wet to play golf We had 13.5 inches of rain here in Feb. which set a record....we are 10.4 inches above normal for the year. My golf club course needs 3 weeks of sun to dry out.

This helps in the depth department.....I'd hope he doesn't come in and play right off because this coming season is going to be a uphill battle to get to a .500 record, IMO. I'd much rather play a QB that's going to be here 2-3 more years.

Auburn should have won that game tonight......with a third of the talent UT has. Just sad.

Barnes might not want anymore money.....He was giving a asst. coach money out of his own pocket to get that coach up where Barnes thought it should be. Barnes might just want his asst. coaches to get more money?

Barnes pay 10th in the SEC....Pay the man more.
