General Boards / PolitiVOL / Re: One senator trying to do something about oil speculation
|
on: July 29, 2011, 09:11:49 EDT

too bad the socialist doesn't have a fizzleING clue how the markets work A more basic misconception in Washington involves what these so-called speculators are really buying. They're not buying oil, they're buying futures, and this is a crucial distinction. A futures contract is an agreement between a buyer and a seller to deliver a set amount of oil - typically 1,000 barrels - at a specific price on a specific date. The value of that contract rises and falls, depending upon market conditions, right up until the date of delivery. Thing is, the pension funds, index funds, hedge funds and other so-called speculators almost never take delivery of any oil. The typical investment fund will buy, say, the August oil future and then sell it days before it comes due - typically rolling over the proceeds into the next month's contract. "For speculators to be propping up the price of oil, they somehow have to be taking physical oil off the market," says energy markets expert Craig Pirrong, a finance professor at the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business. You might ask, are they? Why no they are NOT! According to the Department of Energy, U.S. oil inventories are now at below-average levels. U.S. oil stocks stand at 309 million barrels, versus 330 million in June 2005. New York Mercantile Exchange Chairman James Newsome says "the percentage of futures contracts held by speculators (as opposed to commercial traders) "actually decreased over the last year," (in testimony to Congress)

The "cinc" is setting off to the freaking side like he is bored to tears you mean. Yep. Once again voting "present" verses like actually LEADING, like his vote of "PRESENT" in the current made up "crises" I mean I can uderstand his boredom, he got yanked off of something important that afternoon, the golf course (you can look it up)

The one black mark against him is that he presided over the Duke Lacrosse scandal, IMO one of the most shameful episodes ever in college sports. And he wasn't just a casual bystander, he actively took the lying accuser's side from the get-go, and threw his athletes under the bus. That's a deal-breaker for me.
That made him someone I would NOT accept, period, dot!

At Ky, I was moved 34 rows up from two years ago but still good seats. Two years ago I was in front of the band, this year I will be behind it.

I have not gotten it once since I finished cleanup. Did you get it before or after you read my post about the cleanup?
After Admittedly a small sample but I got 2-3 500 errors just trying to make the post. The board does seem faster, again with a small sample size and on just one machine and network

Anything in PolitiVOL, the Ticket Exchange, the Test Forum, and the Archive (which is where deleted posts end up) that hasn't been touched in the last year is gone. Anything in the main forum that hasn't been touched in 2 years is now gone. Tables have been optimized, logs have been cleaned up, etc.
The board seems faster to me now. Maybe this will fix the "internal server error" issues. If anybody sees that, let me know.
I will try to do a better job of staying on top of this going forward.
Still getting Error 500 - Internal server error An internal server error has occured! Please try again later.
