Title: You ever watch a movie that you loved as a kid years later...
Post by: Black Diamond Vol on December 04, 2012, 04:58:11 EST
...and thought, "What the hell did I ever see in this flick?"  I'm currently watching The Goonies for the first time in 25 years or so, and I'm not sure I can finish it, it's so bad.  I had forgotten that freaking Short Round was in this movie.  He alone makes it unwatchable.  I can't believe they gave him another shot after Temple of Doom. :frown:

The goonies is a total kid movie and I  have watched it several times as my kids grew up. I wouldn't pick it out as a movie to watch but when my grandchildren watch it I will too.

I introduced my children to Godzilla movies as soon as they were old enough. I love all of them no matter how cheesy they are.

Another example: Iron Eagle.  This was my absolute favorite movie back in the day.  Now I watch as a group of kids sneaks on to an Air Force Base, steals a squadron of F-16s, flies them to the Middle East, and rescues one of the kids' POW father, and I just SMH.  I can only suspend my disbelief so far.  Maybe a stint in the real AF taught me better.

Lol, yeah that's a good example.  I wore my vhs copy of that movie out as a kid.

I loved Iron Eagle as a kid. Hadn't even thought about it in years though. Now I'm gonna have to look for it on Netflix.

I see the problem here...y'all were stupid as kids

If you watch "Benji" it is still as good today as it ever was.

Over The Top with Sly Stallone

I've been looking for the video, but can't find it.  Anyway, Stallone was on SNL and there was this skit where Norm Macdonald was just going off on his movies.  Paraphrasing:

"Over the Top, now there's a great movie.  It combines the emotional trauma of a divorce and child custody battle with...arm wrestling.  You know, Kramer vs. Kramer was a great movie about a child custody battle, but it was missing something...Oh wait, I know- arm wrestling." :dielaughing:

EDIT:  Found it.

Goonies was and is one of my favorite movies of all time.

My brother and I screened Over the Top at our 10th birthday party in the party room at Mr. Gatti's.  It made for a legendary night.

Being perfect, I mean. Is it difficult?

I mean, you're never wrong . . . even less often than me, and I'm almost never wrong. And while the rest of us were sitting around in our FOTLs thinking that Chunk and One-Eyed Willie were the best things to ever come across our TV screen, you already knew that it sucked. All I can figure is you must be perfect.

I didn't see it at the theater but on cable near the end of college is why I wasnt that impressed.  I forgot that until I thought about it.

When I saw it I thought it was okay for a kiddie movie but not as good as everyone said when it came out.

But the thing I was disappointed by as an adult was Three's Company. When i was 10 there was nothing funnier but as an adult the humor was incredibly obvious and lame.

Well, I was a dad when Goonies came out and took my baby girl to see it. She loved it! (34 now) Don't know that I've seen it since. But, I did watch the last half of Lost Boys a couple of weeks ago on TV. I did still enjoy that.

Don't even talk to me about The Wizard of OZ! A classic; first color feature movie released, ever - 1939. First full-length color that came out after the Wizard, same year, Gone With the Wind. I'll take the Wizard over the Wind; but, I'm a guy. And Ashley was a wuss.

Not a movie, but when I was about 13 or so Welcome Back Kotter came out and it was the cool show everybody talked about at school. I ran across it a couple of years ago on TV somewhere (probably TVLand) and thought,"Geeze, this is so effing stupid."

You take that back! Ashley was no wuss - he survived a Civil War prison camp.
