Title: OU line has moved drastically
Post by: Black Diamond Vol on September 15, 2024, 08:34:20 EDT
Now Vols -7.5.

It?s the first time OU has been a home dog since 2016 (Ohio State) and only the second time since 2000.  :wow:

Anyone else a little uncomfortable seemingly being viewed as this dangerous already?   :dunno:

As one of my bammer friends said earlier today "Have we really played anyone yet".  Kent State and Chattanooga are beyond bad.  NC State was a legit P5 opponent though.

OU will certainly be our best test to date. I am pretty confident.  I think the line is justified.  I guess we will find out soon enough.   :powert:

I have reserved my judgement of how good we are until after we beat a good team on the road....like OU. And beating Florida anywherel

X2

NC state is the only decent team we have played, but their two wins are against Western Carolina and La Tech, so hard to say how good they truly are.

I will say this is the most optimistic i have been. I do think overconfidence is a big factor this coming week, hopefully the players arent just reading their clips.

This is definitely a much truer test.... :powert:

I think we are a good football team--but we have nothing yet to tell us if we are pretty good or damn good.  N C State is not a good team, so I view all 3 games as not testing us.  I am nervous, but feel OK because I think Oklahoma is only a pretty good team at best, but certainly our first test.  We should know a lot more about us after this game.

I agree. My untrained eye has seen a lot of things about this team that I really like, but I'm waiting until after Saturday to declare this as a playoff caliber team.

If our defense is as good as they've shown so far, we will be okay against OU. Can't tell until you get punched in the mouth. We ain't been punched yet!

Agree that NC state is "not that great", but also >>>>> chattanooga, Kent state   :naughty:  And yeah, I know its a very low bar, but NC State was in fact ranked 24 coming into the game and is still considered to have a shot to win the ACC.

Realistically, ask yourself how a Pruitt, Jones or Dooley team would have fared, and I like to say even Kiffin laid a few eggs in his brief time here.

Best case for the post-Fulmer, pre-Heupel era...we show up lifeless, seem uninspired, make a lot of mistakes, give up more yards than expected and cling to a slim lead entering the fourth quarter and somehow hold on to win 30-28 after barely scoring on a lucky play at the end of the game.

And even Fulmer had games like that in the latter part of his career!

Worst case, we lose.

Against that, 51-10 looks good even against a mediocre team!    :powert:

Judging how Heup is loose and smiling a lot I think the team will be ready to play come Saturday evening

There were previous coaches you could almost hear their sphincters slaming shut and the teams played as tight as their coach's sphincter

I felt like the 22 uga game we were like that
This year, Heup is having fun with the press and the team will be ready to have fun

lol. Jones for sure.  And Pruitt to a lesser extent.  Fulmer was that way in big games.  Dooley always looked like he could GAS, but loose or no, he was, to quote Barkley, "turrable"  :powert:

I think the main thing that worries me is that Heupel's teams have not done well on the road, historically.  We have had one decent game on the road in each of the last two seasons.  We pretty much laid an egg in the other road games.  Adding on to that is the significant step up in the quality of competition across the line of scrimmage. There are some serious question marks hanging over this game.  I hope we can answer them, and answer them decisively.  Preseason is over, it is time to play for real.
