Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Opinion question about Coach Dooley

Hot seat for 7 wins? Not a chance. Heck! He might even deserve a rise for 7. Before the season I reasoned 6 wins. I'm hopeful we will steal at least one and make 7. We lost our best DB before the season started. We lost our #1 WR last week. Our OL did not make the progress that I had hoped for over the off season. Our kicking game has not improved over last year (on the offensive side of the ball).
On the up side. Bray is much better than I thought he would be. Our DL is doing better than what I thought they would. Our kick coverage (defensive side of the kicking game) is vastly improved...even close to the terrific level. The tight end position is strong. Our linebackers are growing up fast a have great potential.
Overall I would say that if our OL knew how to run block, the we could win 8 games this year. Without it, we will be lucky to win 7. What is puzzling is that I thought we had a real top notch line coach. Up to this point, I just don't see that result.

Maggit is the real deal. He showed flashes of what he can be Saturday. Right now he seems to be half a step away from where the action is on almost every play. When he learns to react and not think about what he's suppose to do he will be terrific. We still need help up front though.

I say 6 wins are realistic. I am optimistic and say 7. I'm not setting myself up to think we will win 8. I think we beat Vandy and Ky. I think we will be huge underdogs to LSU, bama and Ark. I think we will be solid underdogs to SCe (they have the best pass rush in the conference and Lattimore) and I think we will have to play much better than we have so far to beat Georgia. Georgia may very well be the most rapidly improving team in the country right now. By the time we play them they won't resemble the team that got ran over by Bosie. They have better line talent and more depth than we do. If we can win that game I'll be thrilled.

After Hunter went down, Florida was attacking the gaps and not worrying about holding them. I thought coming into this game we would have a series of screens to run against their anticipated attacking defense. I don't think we have thrown one all year. With a screen, you slow the defense down and with it slowed down you have a good chance to run against them since the are "on their heels". A great example is what Florida did to us in the first series. Any aggression we thought we had was diluted after their first two plays which were screens.
This is what I have said many times. Also, I hope it's not lost on everyone that when we played ND in 95 (I think) and Wiess was the head coach, he opened their first series with several screens in a row just to slow down the pass rush. It worked then. It worked on Saturday. You would think some film work would of given our D a heads up. Also the back out of the backfield would of been a great play to use. Poole is suppose to have good hands and it would of given him the ball away from the LOS which was blocked up all day.

I was shocked that we had so little diversity in our passing game. How many times did Bray hit a RB out of the backfield? How many quick screens? How many misdirections? I thought our offense was more mature. That we had the whole package. I think we will see Bama, Ark., Dawgs, SCe, LSU all load the box and come after Bray. We showed absolutely no reason why they should slow down the pass rush. Did you see what the gators did??? A little check down pass to the RB goes to the house when we are really putting pressure on the QB. We did NOTHING like that all day. Not once did we make them pay. Why did it take so long to get over the Hunter loss? Because he was 60% of our offense and when he went out we had no one ready to come in and take his place. If I were coach, I would seriously consider sitting about 20 starters for the whole game and work on nothing but depth.

Hands down and no contest is the first, cold beer on a hot day after a long week where you haven't had one in a while. I don't even think the brand makes that big a difference (unless you're talking about light beers ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/thumbdown.gif) ) After that, the quality really come in to play. It is the quality of the beer that will make you say 'I'll have another'. ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/beer.gif)

No orange colored glasses here. We CAN'T run the ball. Unless something huge changes we won't run the ball on Georgia. I picked 6 to 7 wins before the season and I think that is very reasonable. SCe has the best pass rushing D in the league to go along with Lattimore. We will be underdogs in both those games. I'm counting 7 if we manage to steal one along the way.

need a better kicking game. We need a running back that has enough speed to scare the D. And we need more experience for the young guys. I also wonder about some screen passes. We could of eaten them up if we had tried a few. Seven wins will be hard to make this year.

We need to show something new. Something they haven't seen. I like Bray's composure. I was worried about that and he has stood the test. If we can just make something bad happen for florida. I would like to see how brantly handles a little pressure.

They have adjusted well to the gators. Kept us in the game. Let the offense settle down and get moving. They need to be ready because the gators will change it up at half and try to get us off balance again. The OL is doing a good job giving Bray time. Look for a lot of blitz from the gators. We get the ball. If we score then the game is up for grabs.
