I even saw an interview with one of Dooley's former players who is still at LaTech who essentially said that the current coaching staff there is a big upgrade over the last coaching staff.

Oh deere lowered.  Tony Franklin was an upgrade to someone else?  Dooley's coaching staff at La Tech must have been really bad.
177  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The job will be Gruden's to turn down...but if he does turn it down on: October 31, 2012, 05:26:46 EDT
This is not the case people.  Dooley is done and the booster will not bring in another no name unproven head coach.  They and we have all seen what formula works today in college football.

NC = Big Proven Name + Money^2

I dont know if we will get Gruden but I have also heard that the "short" list is very impressive.  A short list with dooley's or smart's name on it is not impressive!

Aren't there some serious financial issues within the AD that have o be considered? From what I understand from local people who donate regularly, UT is not really in the position to have a 'money is no issue' stand.  Is that not true?
178  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: VTTW Storm Watch on: October 29, 2012, 03:41:37 EDT
The Atlantic City boardwalk is already taking a pounding and portions collapsing before the storm even gets close (source: The Weather Channel).

I spent the weekend in Atlantic Beach, NC, enjoying the 50-60mph gusts that were making our condo sound like someone hitting a metal shack with baseball bats. But it was fun taking the kids down to the beach to watch the 20+ foot waves roll in. The only damagae I saw was early Sunday morning in the form of pretty sparks flying everywhere when a couple of transformers were blowing in the neighborhood.

180  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Saban to the Browns on: October 23, 2012, 07:10:42 EDT

Please tell me none of you actually believe that .....

If it makes you bammers crazy, I'll believe it until it either becomes true or one of y'all snaps  .
181  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hearing a little smoke that on: October 22, 2012, 07:31:20 EDT
Also you are beginning to hear Saban to the Browns talk, a few down here are starting to get worried.

Anything to make the bammers quake in their shoes is good. But if that does happen, then there will be an almost unprecedented list of upper tier SEC schools looking for coaches: Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas, Alabama....wow.  That will certainly make for an interesting off season.
182  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Great tailgate on: October 22, 2012, 03:34:28 EDT
Great to see our friends David, Clint, Amy, Ann, Ted and all their friends.

The food was out freaking standing including the brisket and manner pudding.

TRO and BTV also had a great tailgate.

I second Pirate's comments.  It's always fun to see everyone again.  Thanks for the open invites, Emeril, TRO and BTV.  We had a lot of fun.  Good thing there was plenty of alcohol available to start the drowing out process after our loss to Vandy.  I still need more, though. Lots more.
183  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Is there anything between the lines or is Hart just stating the obvious? on: October 19, 2012, 05:18:47 EDT
You guys are going to get Petrino.

Why do you hate us?
184  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Is there anything between the lines or is Hart just stating the obvious? on: October 19, 2012, 04:58:39 EDT
I think we should definitely get the guy our opponents don't want us to get.

Ok...get Gruden, then. I like the Vols and always hope to see them do well (except for 11/9/13). I don't want them to continue to mire in mediocrity.  But we Auburn folk got plenty of other things keeping us busy. Like tracking planes to see where our idiot Powers That Be are going to check coaching interest down on the Plains. So, I'll stay out of y'alls coaching discussion.
185  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Is there anything between the lines or is Hart just stating the obvious? on: October 19, 2012, 04:44:26 EDT
All he has to do is sit in their living room and tap that Super Bowl ring on their coffee table.  I know, I know....Dungy's players. Whatever. 18 year olds won't care.

Gruden should be an especially big draw for qb's.

But when it comes down to it, it doesn't matter how well you recruit.  You have to be able to coach. Gruden has no college football coaching track record to pull from, so he is an unknown commodity. If he comes in and get top 5 or top 10 recruiting classes every year, and only turns in 8 or 9 win seasons with no trip to Atlanta for the SECCG, what then? Auburn has had some great recruiting classes in the last few years, and look at what's happening to us this year. You would be better off by going with someone that has a proven track record, or else this all has the potential to start over again in three years. Or, you can take Chizik. He's a proven winner.
186  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So what are your score predictions for the Tennessee-Alabama game? on: October 19, 2012, 03:21:09 EDT
I think Alabama plays backups late(giving up late points) and beats Tennessee 49-31

The state of TN has the chance to beat the state of AL in TN this weekend.  Vandy will most likely do their part in beating my woeful, pathetic Tigers in Nashville. I think UT can keep it close with their Offense and, if they catch a break or few, will have a chance to win. More out of hopes than realism, I will predict:

UT - 28
Evil Empire - 24
187  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Finebaum does take calls from some really stupid people on: October 18, 2012, 04:06:51 EDT

Did that Lady from Mulga show up again(Doris?)?

Phyllis. And if she didn't exist, Finebum would have had to make her up. She's whack.
188  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What was the first Non-Tennessee(or SEC) college football game you went to? on: October 17, 2012, 09:06:55 EDT
I went with a friend to see Georgia Tech beat Clemson 30-14 in Death Valley in 1989

My very first college football game was 1982 Alabama vs Arkansas St. It was an attempt by my NW Alabama family to go to the dark side. They even lead me down to the edge of the field to look at the Bahr leaning against the goalpost. I started my Auburn fandom that very year.

My first game with no-SEC opponents was a UToledo vs Pittsburg (when Fitzgerald was there), in Toledo (got my MBA from there). UToledo won in the last minute; it was a great game.
189  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Looks like the Tigers will be going to the Series on: October 17, 2012, 05:42:35 EDT
I think Joe Girardi will be fired and A-Rod and a few others will be gone in the offseason

Girardi will get at least another year, but I don't see A-Rod coming back.  And I certainly don't see anyone doling out millions a year for him again. I think he is on his way down.
190  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Looks like the Tigers will be going to the Series on: October 17, 2012, 05:38:04 EDT
Verlander is dominating the Yankees like they're not even there. The Yankeee are about to be down 3-0.

Poor widdle Yankees.  And A-Rod has already checked out for the year. It pleases me so to see them struggling. I hope the Tigers can finish them off tomorrow night.
191  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hey, since both of our teams suck (we suck worse, btw)... on: October 17, 2012, 04:59:49 EDT
Nice topic MIAUTIGER, but we ARE playing the unholy spawn of satan this Saturday.

Any thoughts about that?

They are as you describe. Everything about them is evil, and as our unofficial motto states, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, good ever comes from a bammer win.  Bammer delend est!

As a matter of fact, I will be purchasnig my first ever UT shirt to wear to the game. Destroy the bammers and stomp their eggs.
192  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hey, since both of our teams suck (we suck worse, btw)... on: October 16, 2012, 08:42:04 EDT
Favorite SEC Team - Mine has always been a close tie between UGA and Tennessee. Now that I am in K-ville, it has swung to UT (I'm anti-Woo, btw). I've always liked going to games here, and the fans are generally nicer than most other SEC fans IMO (I'm a great kiss-ass, aren't I).

Favorite non-SEC Team - I have always liked Penn St. and used to like Paterno (no more). Georgia Tech is a close second.

Non-SEC Game - Maybe it comes from living in Michigan for 11 years, but I would like to go to the OSU v Michigan game.

Favorite Player - Bo Jackson, with Herscel Walker a close second

Halloween - My kids put in a request last night for the Tooth Fairy, so I am shopping for wings and a tutu.

193  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Hey, since both of our teams suck (we suck worse, btw)... on: October 16, 2012, 08:35:41 EDT
...how about we pass the time with a little bored, er, board questionnaire? Here are five questions (stealing from Dabble's 5 questions posts on WHAB):
    • Who is your favorite SEC team (not counting UT, of course) and why?
    • Who is your favorite NCAA D1 (not calling it FBS, or whatever it is) team and why?
    • What non-SEC game (neither opponent is an SEC team) would you like to go to?
    • Who was/is your all-time favorite college player?
    • What are you dressing up as for Halloween this year?
194  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Any more excuses? on: October 15, 2012, 08:47:25 EDT
I trust Hart to handle the hiring correctly.  He has to have a big name hire already signed, sealed and delivered before Dooley is let go.  To let Dooley go without having someone else already hired is a monumental mistake, imo.  I'd rather have Dooley for another year than to have to settle (again).

Man, that approach has all the workings of nothing good.  How do you expect them to sneak around Dooley and the entire Vol nation and get a big name coach before letting Dooley go? That is a PR disaster waiting to happen. And us Auburn fans can speak to that based on experience.  May y'all should start tracking flights that the UT plane takes. At the very least it would make for some interesting internet fodder; and at the most, it would uncover a calndestine coaching search. Regardless, it would be a win/win for VTTW in terms of traffic.
195  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Site Transition on: October 15, 2012, 06:56:49 EDT
I want to thank ReVOLver, droner, and Pirate for all their hard work as admins to date.  It certainly is appreciated.

I can say Amen to that. Appreciated and thankful to them for having a forum that is fun to lurk around post in. Thanks for letting this Auburn guy stick around all these years. I'm so appreciative, that I'm willing to give y'all our coach if you want him. Proven winner.
196  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Well, who is a good candidate to replace him? on: October 14, 2012, 02:43:15 EDT
At least until Petrino started winning, then you couldn't get him out with Dynamite. Oh wait, if he won we wouldn't want to get rid of him. Strong seems like a "strong" candidate, Gruden a long shot. But, who knows what UT might reel in if they offered Saban like money.

I can't believe anyone would think it is a good idea to hire Petrino. You guys should really think about Chizik. He's a proven winner, too, and even has a MNC under his belt.
197  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Alright people, fess up... on: October 11, 2012, 08:42:31 EDT
Am I the only one here who will admit to watching "Nashville" last night?  I actually thought it was good, surprisingly enough.

Duck Dynasty had two new shows on last night, which is about my nightly limit for tv watching.
198  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Who's watching Dexter, and is anybody watching Homeland? (spoilers) on: October 09, 2012, 02:33:26 EDT
I think we are going to find out he is a serial killer who hunts serial killers.

My opinion of Louis is that he will be a part of some weird killer triangle that ultimately brings Deb around to Dexter's way of thinking. I wouldn't be surprised to see that Louis tries to kill Dexter, with Deb running to Dexter's rescue and giving herself over to letting Dexter have his way with Louis.  But, if that were to happen, I couldn't imagine what the last season would hold. It's been a great series and will end the same year as my other favorite series, Breaking Bad.
199  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: we don't suck as much as Kensucky? on: October 08, 2012, 04:10:24 EDT
    hooray!

i am not sure you are right, however.

Why...do you think we are worse than KY? Cause I do.
    200  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: MSU's schedule on: October 08, 2012, 05:47:54 EDT
Auburn might give us a game, but they looked so pitiful yesterday at home that I doubt it.

Dude...we wouldn't give the Little Blind and Deaf Sisters of the Poor a good game.  We are turable, turable, turable this year.  We really should make you feel better about your situation overall.  Dooley will look like a friggin genious if you compare him to Chizik. And don't forget, the only reason we won a MNC was that we paid 200 big ones for a once-in-a-lifetime QB.  We are back in the basement.
