OK, we know Iris (TnFlower, LTF) went rouge and left a horrifying scene when her foot was stepped on, but that's just part of the story. The question is WHY? How could such a sweet and gentile soul as Iris leave such a gruesome scene of destruction? WHY would she act so violently. What or who sent her over the edge of sanity.
I've known her years and met her during the Manning years. That long experience with her gives me great insight into the inner workings of her criminal mind. The clue is in timing of the event. YES! Excessive frustration builds and produces such a cataclysmic event. Excessive frustration and unabated hatred produces such a horrible crime as this, and the timing is telling: Late October (yall starting to get the clues now?!?)
The clues mount and EUREKA! Yes, a CRIMSON clad fan stepped on that ORANGE toe, and a horrific and bloody scene followed!!!

Hate it for him if he's done. Kid took a beating and kept getting back up. His non ability to avoid pressure and a bad OL was a bad combo.
Yes, that was the very worst combination but at the time he was the best QB they had. Phil, in my opinion, you guys were really only lacking an offensive line in order to be a good team that could legitimately compete in this league. While recruiting definately helped in the speed and quickness department, someone has definately been coaching them up because this team is so much tougher physically and mentally than year. Last season they just were not a very physical team and lacked overall speed. The mental toughness part really now comes so much more into play. How can they overcome these consecutive losses, and can they put it behind them? It will be interesting to see how they overcome this, and coaching now comes to the forefront. BG

team. I know he has some heart. I hope he can see more action before end of season. I just wish some of the 5 star players would play with as much passion.
I respect him as he really has taken a beating back there, and played well early on. Those hits on a QB mount up as the year progresses. In the Tide-UT game, I thought Dobb's legs really helped take away some of the disadvantages UT has on their offensive line. BG

Very tough row to hoe to win out, plus Ole Miss would need another loss. Two top five teams to face plus a young but very talented LSU team that's demonstating big improvement by knocking off Ole Miss and drilling Kentucky. Injuries are now coming into play as our best offensive lineman-Cam Robinson-was hurt in the UT game and is out for several weeks. Whoever wins the division has their work cut out for them.
Fans from other conferences have little comprehension of how difficult it is to win the SEC championship.

That you should have such an inordinate amount of pride in football...it don't mean squat at the end of the day.
But if I wanted to nitpick something specific, UT has more SEC titles, a better SEC win percentage, more wins, and a better overall win percentage than Auburn. It's true Auburn holds a small advantage in the head to head, but we don't give up anything to them and I think in terms of overall SEC success, UT is still no. 2 behind bammer. Granted, 3 n 4 aren't that far behind, but FWIW, we are the second most successful program in the SEC behind yours.
OK... I have no "pride" in Auburn's performance, and I know they have none in Bama's. That was a response to the supposition that the wealth of a state benefits a college football team, while contrasting the states of Tennessee and Alabama. I continued on with his example as my own state seems to disprove that theory, and that's what I pointed out. While it may help, it's not essential. That's about as unemotional, matter-of-fact and to the point as I could get. Contrary to what you may believe, I wasn't waiving Crimson and White and Blue and Orange shakers while posting it. I didn't speak negatively of UT, all I did was mentioned the overall record between those three teams since it was central to my response. Other than your Auburn specifics, which you admittedly characterized as nitpicking, what exactly do you disagree with? BG

It's interesting. When I talk to fans of other SEC schools here, every one of them says that they are impressed with Butch and that they think he's going to get it done at UT.
Apparently so. Just read where a national writer for 247 Sports said Butch Jones was listed with other potential candidates by "sources" as someone Michigan may be interested in. Just another example of the grass being greener on the other side. BG

UT fans should understand that CBJ is still a young coach who is growing in his HC role. Not every decision he makes is going to be perfect. By the time he restocks the roster with competitive SEC talent, he will have gained valuable experience in decisions to be made on-field (e.g., this field goal vs TD), in program development (e.g., when to play Dobbs), etc. Much of his coaching growth will be from first-hand experience, trial and error. He may grow into the next Nick Saban, but UT fans shouldn't realistically expect that he is already at that level. Be patient with him.
Yep, and I'm beginning to think I've been more impressed by Jones than some Vols. Yes, UT should have beat the Gators, but that's just one game. The difference between last year's UT team and this year's team is one of toughness. Big difference between the two. Edited to add, I thought your QB played very well, especially since he was getting next to nothing in terms of practice reps this fall as they are usually reserved for mostly the top two QB's. I don't usually judge the performance of a very inexperienced QB too harshly, as the difference between what a QB looks like as a true freshman vs. what they look like as an experienced senior is often so vastly different. I have no idea if he'll be the answer at QB, but in him the coaches at least have some tools to work with. BG

And...sorry BG, but... if only bammer had something else to feel good about, then maybe middle aged wimmen's wouldn't kick college boyz in the head, crazy ole nuts wouldn't poison trees, and ... peeps wouldn't get killed for saying the Heat is more important than bammer. Truth hurts sometimes bro... ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/1naughty.gif) What about my post do you disagree with? BG

Nobody is saying Saban isn't "great" he didn't start as a rock star though. He has earned his reputation. Still everybody starts somewhere. I don't understand why UT doesn't swing for the fences in coaching hires either. It is a more prosperous state than Alabama, and logically should have a stronger, booster base. Surprising really.
Well, they did try to hit that home-run hire, but things didn't work out. I'm not convinced that had UT rounded the bases and touched home plate with the "big" hire that they would be in better shape than the present situation. I think Jones has done well due to his recruiting efforts which were priority no. 1. If you meant pushing for a much bigger hire than Dooley, then I completely agree. I thought that hire was a knee-jerk reaction to replace Kiffin with the antithesis being the good-ole southern boy who would know and respect the value of being at UT. Wrong reason to hire anybody. As far as your state-by-state economic comparison and potential impact of a program's success, I doubt there is such a correlation since the less prosperous state of Alabama actually produces, not one, but two state schools that outperform UT with both schools holding all-time winning records against the Vols. The state of Alabama actually out produces, in a college football winning sense, far more economically successful states than Tennessee such as California, Texas and Florida. That competition between Alabama and Auburn yields a 365 day and a 24/7 effort to outperform the other. If they can outperform the other, then they can often exceed most any team. BG

Had a young lady tell me someone hit wittle kiffy in the face with a cup (of something, I guess [???] after the game as he was running off the field. She was wearing white and was with UT and bammer fans, so I have no idea of her aliance. I assume the cup had to be loaded to be thrown acuately enough to hit it's mark. I had to laugh after I walked away. Got home about 45min ago. G ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) I watched a video that followed him on the field after the game all the way off the field and then under the stadium. What she might have seen were things being thrown as he started under the stadium, but those were chin-straps being tossed from the Bama players to the kids in the stands who were wanting them. Also, Kiffin did give a small girl his visor (no she didn't toss it back), and that was it. Edited to add while I couldn't see it in the video, according to Tide Sports writer DC Reeves, yes, someone did throw a cup at Kiffin when he handed the girl his visor, but Kiffin's head is no Amari Cooper and didn't catch the cup. They missed. BG

I recommended the article because of TR, who is an excellent writer with a great sense of humor to boot.
I'd only read one story from Rucker before and that was after the OU-UT game. He did come on our board at BamaOnline yesterday, and I've now mentioned to him in a post that it's perhaps best for him to omit the term "stomped" from his vocabulary. If you read his article after the OU game (even I can't believe he wrote that) then ya know what I mean...;)

Funny stuff! Travis has written for Tide sites since '96 or so. Actually first read him when his brother was being recruited by Bama in that same year. Always a good read. The article is "Better Know Your Foe." It's on the Checkerboad forum. I'm fairly sure you dont have to be a subscriber in order to read it.

Never a Sabbath fan, and I was around in their day. Busy enjoying Zeppelin and the Allman Brothers at the time, and going back to Abby Road, the White Album, Sgt. Pepper, Revolver and Rubber Soul LP's and thinking those four guys were way ahead of the curve. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters and Ozzie of Sabbath agree with that as both are huge Beatles fans. Btw, saw Jimmy Page and the boys live in T-town around maybe 73 or so---just great!

Likely they don't sniff a win against those opponents with a different coach.
There is no doubt he profited from the rest of the East being down, and also Clay Mathews was pretty much 80% of his offense, but he is a good coach.
But your point may be valid in that he is more of an above average to good coach than one that can take PSU to "then next level". But make no mistake, he is better than most.
Bandit, yes, but it was 'Jordan' Mathews at Vandy. Wouldn't have even mentioned that but he is one great player from the Huntsville area we missed on. Another from Huntsville who was second team All-SEC last season, and probably first team this year, is Trey Flowers the great DL from Arkansas. Neither Bama nor Auburn offered either-big mistake by both. BG
