Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Mack Brown

This is just typical Mack Brown. Unfathomable decisions at Texas and now at UNC. At Texas he proved a mediocre coach can lose with talent if you cannot coachem up.UNC will always be middle-of-the-pack. Mack can at least talk well enough on TV to not sound and look like some random hick from southern Alabama. You know, like a head coach for a major college team in Knoxville.

JMO, but I think the Colts are paying Luck all his salary as an injury payout to compensate for the horrible teams they put around him that allowed him to be beat to a pulp those early years. The money they are paying is likely less than a jury would award him. I understand why he said he retired. Listen carefully to the way he worded it. He lost the joy of the game. The pain he has suffered at the malfeasance the Colt GM and Irsay inflicted on him cannot be compensated with money. Welcome to retirement Andrew. Nothing is as important as your mental and physical health. Nothing.

As great as he was/is, EB has been injured way too much and missed too many games to be depended on. His best years and days are behind him to be counted on as a safety. The NFL is a cut-throat business and they have to make a business decision. EB is to great a risk to invest big money in.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I will question Pruitt on one thing already
|
on: September 05, 2018, 04:22:43 EDT

Since I am not and have never been a football coach, I find it hard to question coaching decisions. That said, over my observations of 50 years of watching Tennessee football, I am not always convinced that a coach really knows what position a player is skilled at. When I hear a coach say "We need to put our best players on the field", I interpret that as saying I do not know where our players need to be. I think Pruitt is really short at DBs and is playing skilled players there and hoping the RBs left get the job done. Dooley never had a clue. Butch had a clue, but could not coach or pick assistants that could coach. Same for Fulmer after 2000.
The talent pool for the Vols is shallow so I give Pruitt a benefit of a doubt. It is just with the new concussion protocols, RBs will get knocked out of games over an abundance of caution.
But it does not matter what I think because I am not the head coach.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: After the first game I still have no idea how good/bad this team is. How many

I think Trey Smith showed he is not in football shape, missed spring practice, and fall camp. The rest of the OL looked on TV like they still do not know who to block. JG has to show he can complete a deep ball before I feel better. Knew the DBs were freshmen, but they still could have played better. Until the players stop looking for a star to emerge and play like a team, they will lose the 2nd half of every game.
They will improve as the year goes on. I just hope they don't have 7 losses before Pruitt figures out what players can really help.

How the OSU BOT spokewoman could stand in front of media and say they believe Urban was lying to them, but could not conclude that he did not intentionally lie at Big10 media days is just beyond belief. All media outside Big10 land are saying OSU decided that football is too big to fire Urban and that they value winning football over integrity. No this will not go away. ESPN is spinning because their big contract with Big10 (can these people not count to 12?) could come crashing down with an Urban scandal.
Yes the Big10 schools are egotistic, sanctimonious, and without integrity. They are examples of big money being more important than than integrity. Maybe the rest of the country is catching on to that fact, be when sports media is loaded with Big10 homers this will take time. I cannot wait to see the opposing fan's reactions when OSU comes calling. Hide all the women, children, and pets when the Buckeyes are around.

IMO beer and wine will be catered to all the VIP seats only. I doubt sales to the little folk will happen to establish a demand for expensive seats.
There is alcohol in the stadium now. IMO there will be no more drunks in the stands than now exists.

Herban IMO is not going to get fired over this. When the committee looking into it is loaded with his supporters, he will keep his job. Will get suspended for meaningless games only; no important Little10 games. All of this is going to be blamed on anyone and everyone but Herban. The football contract with ESPN, etc. is too big to take out the Cryer. The league income would drop too much if Herban is gone. Money talks; ethics and integrity go away when football at Ohio State is involved. This is just my opinion.

Do you really expect Fulmer would ever fire Holly? Just like any of his assistant coaches, Fulmer was too loyal to fire them so he will stick with Holly until he gets fired. Again.
Face it. The Lady Vols are doomed to be a 2nd, maybe 3rd tier program as long as Holly is there. She has hired or retained defense and offenseive coaches that still coach like it was 1999.

It is not up to the university to fire his thug coach. That is his job. Caught in his lie, he lies again to explain it. Time to fire him if OSU has ANY courage and sense of what is right. My feeling is OSU wants to win so badly Herban is safe in his lies.

Of course Herban will survive it. As long as he is winning at Ohio State, he will coach there until he is accused of being involved in child abuse (just like Penn State). Maybe his heart will act up again and he has to resign. Winning it the only thing important in Columbus. Just call me cynical with regards to OSU.

Maybe he no longer wants to play football and it was his decision to leave after talking with the coaches about his skill set. People can leave on their own and are not always run off.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Whatever your feelings about Pete Rose and his HOF candidacy
|
on: March 08, 2018, 06:00:17 EST

Pete needs to make a living since MLB banned and banished him because they blame him for the death of the commissioner Giamatti. Pete was guilty of all charges and deserved the ban for life. If MLB had conducted a real and impartial investigation instead of the prejudgment and collusion among owners, they still would have found him guilty. You can still do a guilty man wrong by finding him guilty of the crime. Pete desrves to be in the HOF based on his performance. The HOF also has the right to deny him the right to be there.
Pete deserves no sympathy for what he did. MLB owners and the writers that vote for the HOF have no right to blame him for the death of Giamatti like they have for all these years. You cannot convince me his banishment is solely on betting, although that is enough. MLB has decided Pete will never go into the HOF until he dies. It will take the death of current sportswriters to vote him in as veteran. They may never forgive him even after death.
Pete is a bitter old man that feels he has wrongly been denied a livelihood that has left him impoverished. I understand why he feels that way and I understand why MLB feels that way. Neither side deserves sympathy. But MLB writes the rules and has the power to do whatever they want. Pete has the right to make money. A fool and his money are soon partying.

A good QB can make a great WR corps. And I good WR group can make a QB look All-World. Memphis WRs have developed well the past 4 yrs. If we can develop a QB that is accurate, I think the WRs will get much better with coaching.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So, Jennings could return...
|
on: January 11, 2018, 04:44:10 EST

If the coaches and team are willing to give him another chance, the fans have no say. It is not our call. If HC Pruitt establishes the return criteria and parameters to remain on the team, it will be up to Jennings to do them and walk the straight and narrow. A whole lot of fan response is based on a generation gap in which a lot of people just refuse to accept change into a new way of looking at life. Just because you would never do what he did on social media does not make him a social pariah. So if the coaches and team want to give him another chance with zero tolerance from this day forward, it will be OK.
