Speechless right now, and for me, that doesn't happen very often.

Perspective.

Or you could drive over to Spartanburg and have a Hash-A-Plen-Tay at the Beacon for lunch?

I did just that last Saturday on my way down to Augusta, and then again on Wednesday (only I had a Chili-cheesburger-A-Plen-Tay) on our way home from Myrtle Beach.

Love me some Beacon, even though the White family doesn't own it any longer.  The new owners have pretty much kept it as it was.

It's okay. Everyone knows baseball isn't a real sport anyway.

I'd say that there are some bandwagon Cardinal fans leaping off that wagon about now.

Boy, you Braves are a touchy bunch.

Nope.  Just over #badword#s who try to belittle us.
2605  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: NBA season starts tonight...... on: October 31, 2013, 02:46:54 EDT
You do realize that the Braves are a Southern team, and that most of us here are native Southerners, right?  Not saying there aren't any bandwagon Braves fans out there- but for most of the ones here, they are our "local" team that we grew up with.

And there are several teams out there right now with bigger frontrunning fanbases- look no farther than the two still playing, to name a couple.

Yep.  Don't really give a tinker's damn what anybody thinks about my Braves.  My Dad took me to my first Braves game at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium in 1968 and I have been a fan ever since - through the good years, and through those gawd awful 100 plus loss years, too.

Every team out there has bandwagon fans, and especially in this day and time with social media, sports stalk (spelled like I intended) radio, the interwebz, and cable/satellite TV where you can pretty much see any game contested live.  The fact that the Braves have its share of bandwaggoners doesn't really make any difference to my lifelong fandom.

NBA?  What is this NBA you speak of?

I hope he doesn't decide to grow long hair and a beard and look like a Civil War reenactor on the court.
2608  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: BTW, what's going on with our field this year? on: October 24, 2013, 05:50:56 EDT
Robbie Howard followed Campbell as the baseball coach at Doyle and was there for a long time, up until about 6 years ago when he started coaching golf when his daughter was playing.  Jeff Browning is now the baseball coach there and does a good job, and Robbie is now the Softball coach at S-D.

Robbie is a really good guy.  I had some of his players on my summer travel team and had a lot of contact with Robbie through them.  Class act.
2609  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: BTW, what's going on with our field this year? on: October 24, 2013, 02:06:56 EDT
Bobby Campbell...do you know if he was an ex-Vol baseball player?  Maybe a local HS bball coach as well?

Yes, that Bobby Campbell.  He coached at South - Doyle (when it was still just Doyle, if memory serves) and he was the groundskeeper at Bill Meyer Stadium, too, which was a dump, but had one of the best playing surfaces in minor league baseball.  Bobby was the groundskeeper at UT for a long time before he retired - one of the best anywhere.  Really good guy, as well.
2610  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So they're using that wussie... on: October 24, 2013, 03:24:17 EDT
The DH is used in American League parks, and not in National League parks.  That's how it's always been during the World Series.
2611  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: BTW, what's going on with our field this year? on: October 24, 2013, 01:06:44 EDT
Noticed that too. Maybe the band practices on it too much. Did they have a walking horse prance around the field on Sat.? I didn't get to my seat til just before kickoff and I noticed some strange markings in the north end zone.

Neither the band nor the team practice on the game surface much at all.

Not pointing fingers, but Bobby Campbell retired as the groundskeeper.  They now have a "Director of Surface Management" listed, and his name is Darren Seybold.

Bobby was a terrific groundskeeper.  I'm sure the new guy is, as well, but there is a huge difference now and just a few years back in the playing surface.

We need a tongue-in-cheek emoticon since my use of  and  didn't convey my point.

Nah.  Got the point.  Just sayin' ...........

Can we get TRO to put a Paypal plugin on the site? We can all donate a few dollars and cover his costs.

Hmmmmm.  Not sure the NCAA would go for that one.
2614  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Wonder if the coaches are doing anything special this week to on: October 22, 2013, 06:11:11 EDT
If any UT player has to be reminded of that then I don't think they need to be at UT in the first place.

Herb Tarlek has a Clemson fixation,

The only thing that would fix Kliempsein would be a couple of well place newclar (thank you, Dubyah) bombs.

It's my understanding that it hinges on his paying the money back, which he hadn't been able to do yet.

No, he's no accurate at all.  And thank goodness he was bailed out by a couple of tremendous catches in key situations, or he wouldn't have gotten a win on Saturday.

Obviously Rusty the Rooster doesn't post on that forum.

Geniuses?  On this forum?  Or anywhere on the interwebz, for that matter?
2621  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We got Von Pearson on: October 20, 2013, 10:40:48 EDT
Perhaps, but I'll take this problem. There are one or two more guys I'm confident won't stay among our commitments, so I don't see it being a major issue. If you don't get all that attention early in the recruiting process, maybe it doesn't go as well with the later guys . . . who knows. This is a good problem to have though.

The rub is when a school where the recruited over player has another potential recruit whom a school is interested in.  Pulling early offers based on running out of scholly spots doesn't go over very well with high school coaches, and in many instances high school coaches do carry a lot of weight.

Right now Butch has to do it in order to raise the talent level as quickly as possible, but there is a risk.
2622  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: We got Von Pearson on: October 20, 2013, 10:29:27 EDT
This is the problem when you take so many verbals early.  Having to recruit over commits can be a double edged sword.
2623  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So I go to the beach for a few days............ on: October 20, 2013, 10:26:18 EDT
Yes, it was a good day.

Hopefully the rat bastard fans will just shut up now.

And to add, apparently there are rumors out there that a tiglet player and gambling issues.  Again, those are rumors that might be coming from the Kliempsein campus.
2624  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I'm so glad we've seen the last of Connor Shaw on: October 20, 2013, 02:46:29 EDT
Yep.  You watch him play and he doesn't look very athletic at all, but all he does is find a way to beat you.  Hats off to him, and happy that he is a senior.

Rooting for a major power grid outage, myself.
