Mack Brown stepping down at TX on twitter and orangebloods

Premature report by them. Brown has since denied it to the 24/7 site writer Bobby Burton. However, Burton says something could happen in the next forty eight hours. The thinking is their Board of Regents meeting on Thursday could be interesting if news doesn't come sooner. For those with a 247 account, you can view the Texas site with your member account to your team board. That's another reason I like 247 so much, you can read any team site.

Holy crap...we agree on something.  I do think Danielson is knowledgeable, but over the last year or so he seems to pick a favorite early and stick with them.  Almost as if he doesn't want to be proved wrong...

One advantage Danielson has over someone like Blackledge is he knows he won't have to cover but just 14 teams-the SEC. That does give him the chance to really review tape and know these teams like the back of his hand before and during the season. Blackledge, and others, are really clueless as to who they will be covering during any given year, and it's just a week to week thing for them which really cuts down on their time to really review tape and talk to those in the know on these teams. However, even given that big advantage for Danielson in preparation time, his analytical skills appear superior to his competition.

My favorite are Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge.

As a tandem, I agree. It's a shame Nessler hasn't unseated Musburger as the ABC/ESPN no.1 announcer. His talent is going to waste on lesser games.

I'll be honest: Give me Gus Johnson and Charles Davis over our SEC celebrity crew of Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson any day of the week.

Different strokes for different folks-thank you Sly Stone-but I like Danielson and think there is no commentator as knowledgeable and analytically gifted as he. You hear more in-depth and insightful takes from him than you do from all others combined. While his voice is sometimes monotone and he can grate on you when you disagree with him, I appreciate his overall work immensely.

482  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How did Michigan State lose to Notre Dame and Auburn lose to LSU?.... on: December 08, 2013, 09:44:43 EST
We were not as good then.  We went on our first road game and turned the ball over our first 3 possessions.  Fumble, Int, blocked punt.  LSU converted to points.

Congrats to you guys. I knew you guys would be much improved this season, but no way did I expect this! Who did? You're right, Auburn is a much improved team since that LSU game. I give your staff credit for that.

BTW, part of my family is really enjoying what AU has accomplished this season, and another part of the family (Crimson and White) are not. Include me in the latter group. Also, since this will be the fifth straight year someone from this state has been in the national championship game, it's time to rename that game to The State of Alabama Invitational National Championship Game!

We sucked in all three phases of the game

Coaching, not observed

Report complete

While I say overall talent is the biggest issue, I do think your DC may be shown the door. Too many defensive players out of position far too often.

Comcast is the devil.

Kicked them to the curb several years ago in favor of DishNetwork.

Dish is far from perfect, but their customer service is light years ahead of Devilcast.

While I prefer Direct, Dish's customer service was surprisingly excellent when I dealt with them.

If you're comparing Auburn To UT that's apples to oranges. Auburn has recruited well in the past few years while UT hasn't. Recruiting hasn't been their problem. It was poor coaching with assistants and the head man not on the same page, poor discipline and inept coordinators. Talent wasn't their major problem. Also, these offensive players were mostly recruited for the current offensive scheme when their head man was the offensive coordinator. Auburn has far more team speed than UT. Recruiting is still the answer for those in orange and white.

The funniest thing I've seen is a friend of mine that is an avid Bama fan -- making fun of Auburn -- like, I don't think I'd be going there if I was a Bama fan considering their history!  Whoop!!

You're friend sounds like a really good guy. I bet I would like him, but he doesn't have to laugh at the off the field problems at AU, because he's got plenty to laugh about just on their on the field problems. My sister,  brother n law and nephew are big Tiger fans, with two of them being AU grads. We're a very close family, but Thanksgiving time (UA-AU game) one way or another, is always interesting.

The saving grace is her daughter and son n law are both big Bama fans and grads. Both were with me at that first tailgate we had in Knoxville with you guys in 2002. You used to have some great pics of everyone (they are both in it) together at that tailgate

Yes, her Duke reporting was ludicrous, and her constant "out to get ya  for a story" motivation is well documented. However, what is interesting is Salena Roberts is an...Auburn grad. Rumor has it for some strange reason her season tickets will now be chronically lost in the mail. Oh well, maybe she can now get a pair in T-town.

Ouch!   I hope it turns out to be smoke & mirrors instead of smoke & fire (unlike your tree-killing rivals).  It'll only take about two years to find out.

Been a busy morning. I just snuffed out two old white oaks and a huge hickory in the past hour.

496  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Mal Moore passes away at age 73 on: March 31, 2013, 03:19:56 EDT
That's too bad. After an extremely rocky start as AD, he proved to be one of the nation's best...maybe THE best, in fact. Ironically, though, his lasting legacy will be built on a hire that he would not have made had it truly been his choice.

Creek, regarding Mal's choice, what you said is the way the press reported it at the time. However, the story came out after the hire of what actually went down behind closed doors. The first two choices were Saban and SOS. Mal knew that Saban would probably be looking at leaving the NFL after the season due to a call he received from his agent Jimmy Sexton after the MSU game. They knew he would not make any decision on what he would do until after the season. That was a drawback due to the need to get someone in asap due to recruiting. The decision was to pursue SOS, and he seemed very interested but in the end said he was too old to make another move and suggested we get someome younger.

Moore wanted to wait on Saban but the BOT said we had to get someone quickly again for recruiting reasons. Mal set a date to meet Rich Rod to discuss the job in a hotel in another city. What was not known was the day before he met with RR, he met Saban's agent at the very same hotel attempting the get a decision from Saban now. The agent was adament that wasn't going to happen as Saban was not going to consider anything until the NFL season ended. Next step was the offer, and eventual turn down by RR. At that point Moore convinced the BOT to wait for Saban's decision in January as the only legit candidate left was Petrino...he was next on the list. The BOT went with Mal's suggestion and eventually it paid off.

Wish you had posted those links back when ReVOLver and were having a bit of a tiff a few months ago ...

I too could never understand how he was named head coach at UT with that dismal record at La Tech. The Dooley name and his association with Saban should not have trumped that record. You called it from day 1.

Even I remember him, and saturday afternoon only games with Joe Dean and his "blue collar worker" and "string-music" calls.

Battle hasn't live in Knoxville since shortly after he was fired.  He's was in the Atlanta area for years while he was running Collegiate Licensing.
Yep, and that experience in running that company is probably the biggest reason he is now AD.
