51  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The new stadium in Atlanta is really nice... on: January 03, 2018, 05:18:31 EST
From the overhead view of the new MB stadium, the view of the demolished Georgia Dome certainly looks like a meteor hit. Maybe one day soon, UT can play a championship game there before Atlanta blows that stadium up to build the next Taj Mahal stadium.

OK Droner, how do you really feel about KlempsSun?

Have you already got your wine for New Year's Eve or going for more today?
54  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Report that Dormady is leaving on: December 29, 2017, 02:47:35 EST
If he is graduating, he needs to get on with his life. I never heard or it did not register what type of shoulder surgery he had. That said, it typically takes more than a year to fully recover. So he would not go thru spring practice, summer workouts, or fall camp at 100%. So why go through a meat grinder just to please some fans? There is more to life than football and if you can get a jump start on your life, go for it. Why would people assume he would not be welcome back when even with a bad shoulder he won the job? He will probably not be healthy enough to play until 2019. Why put off life?
55  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Sounds like another banner day for NFL officiating on: December 25, 2017, 03:26:14 EST
A big problem for the NFL is they started the season saying that the league was going to rely on the call on the field more (the benefit of the doubt) and replay was going to only be used for obviously overturned calls. Then the replay has devolved to "Well the replay officials in New York have the benefit of super-slo-mo and HD and they can see things the viewer cannot". That and the fact that New England wins every call. The endless "Is it a catch or not?" and "He did not survive the ground." is just maddening. The NFL has decided that Tom Brady is the face of the league and New England is going to get every call whether they need it or not.

Instant replay should only be used for turnovers (real or possible) and in the last five minutes of the half. If they cannot make a call in 60 seconds, the call stands. And they need to explain to the fans why. Replay needs to be removed from the league office and return to the field of play with no super-slo-mo.
56  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Just got back from seeing The Last Jedi on: December 18, 2017, 02:55:23 EST
The Last Jedi was good. It was not perfect, but the audience today has been spoiled by CGI effects. I thought the plots and writing were good because it sets up the next movie and the ones after. This movie and the last are vehicles to say goodbye to the old cast. All movies are somewhat predictable when you know how a screen play is written. The old Jedi order is dead and a new good Force is forming.
57  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Check out Schiano's MOU with UT... on: December 12, 2017, 11:44:32 EST
The real important part of the MOU was that no one with signature authority at UT signed it so it was not legally binding.
58  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: No matter what else happens next year on: December 09, 2017, 08:44:32 EST
Talent cannot always overcome poor or non-existent coaching. Having coaches that hold a grudge or dislike for you can keep you from playing. Not preparing backups to play until throwing them to the lions because of injury is never a good plan. Running off stars simply because you get mad at them. You cannot have that many prima donnas leave and not be at least a factor in their leaving. So no I do not buy into all the players that left were bad apples or not tough minded enough. I think they saw Butch for the bully that he was and got away before lashing back. Some may have told him off and thus got on his bad list.

I questioned Butch's player choice a lot of the time. I really questioned his selection and retention of assistant coaches. His stock answer of "They did not practice well" is more a coaches admission that I cannot recognize talent and ability IMO.
59  Sports / VTTW Message Board / I can get behind Pruitt if.... on: December 07, 2017, 07:03:32 EST
If Fulmer gets out of his way and lets him coach.
If Fulmer demands he hire a great OC, but does not dictate who it is.
If Fulmer can provide enough money to hire great assistants.
If he hires a recruiting coordinator first to handle all the recruiting requirements that a head coach cannot balance and run the team.
If he can mend the obvious fracture in this team.

Pruitt is going to have his hands full getting the players healthy enough to last most of the season. I do not envy him coming from Bama to this job. Solving the lack of quality LBs that can play more than 2 to 3 games before injury puts them out will be a chore. I just hope he can identify who the players are that can help the team on Saturday and can trust them.

I love Bluto's speech.
61  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How long do think it will be before we see player set out of a CFP game to on: December 06, 2017, 01:53:29 EST
If a player has a nagging injury that still needs time to heal (see Leonard Fournette), I could see someone setting out. If you are in the CFP, I do not see anyone sitting out.

Frankly if a player is not likely to increase his draft stock and is injured, it is better they sit.
62  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Miles and Tee?? on: December 03, 2017, 06:50:57 EST
Unless Miles agrees to leave the OC alone in organized and calling stupid plays, UT will be stuck at 8 wins a year. Miles rarely beat Bama because he ran the ball too much. You beat Bama by passing and a mobile QB (see Johnny Football and Clemson).

What makes anyone believe for one minute Miles will retire in 5 years or less?
63  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Ever since yesterday's presser... on: December 03, 2017, 03:26:18 EST
I doubt any candidates have yet been identified. I also think Fulmer has not alienated enough people yet. The anti-Haslam cliche does not have to leak the candidates.

IMO Peyton is pro-Tennessee no matter what the school does. Currie could have picked Attila the Hun and Peyton would have supported him.
65  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Now this is an insightful tweet on: December 02, 2017, 04:58:25 EST
And there are more failed transitions than successful ones IMO. It is always a roll of the dice. Just how big a risk are you willing to take because most transitions take a while and some require new schools. I am just glad I do not have to make this call. And I hope Fulmer can pick a better head coach than he was at picking assistants in the 2000s.

So if Tee does not win the SEC his 2nd year here, how many will be declaring him a failure and clamoring for a new HC?
66  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: BTW, did Bev seem like she was about to cry? on: December 02, 2017, 03:22:16 EST
From Davenport’s body language & speaking, she really looked like someone that had been chastised by her superior and giving an ultimatum. From her speech patterns, she really looked like she did not want to let Currie go, but it was not here chose. When you are an executive and your choice screwed up so royally, it is embarrassing and makes you look bad. I’m sure she did not want to talk about her failed hire. I also think it was not her choice to hire Fulmer, but DePietro made the call. So yes she looked chastened. If your boss had read you the riot act, you would not want to talk much either.

67  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Fulmer to be new AD and here are the power players..... on: December 02, 2017, 12:02:57 EST
Fuller was working for UT President DiPietro. He was directed to observe the coach search early this week. He would have known Currie was on the West Coast & about to hire the Pirate. You could tell Davenport had been instructed to fix this now (i. e., fire Currie or you are gone) and that Fuller was going to be AD now. She was not in the decision loop, but had to deliver the bad news to Currie. If Phil does not micromanage HC, the new one may succeed.

68  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Fisher to A&M, Ole Miss hit with major violations, UT fires AD........ on: December 01, 2017, 08:46:56 EST
Fisher goes to A&M because Fisher and the FSU administrators (all of them) have been at each other over facilities, player treatment, etc. Fisher has toyed with leaving for 3-4 yrs and FSU called his bluff. A&M has deeper pockets than FSU. He has not been able to pick and choose Florida recruits like the past so the talent depth has fallen off.

If you are not happy with your boss and your boss is not happy with you, you need to find other employment. Regardless, with better ACC teams emerging, and the Florida universities getting better and drawing off top talent, FSU will tank somewhat unless the new coach is a spit fire.

Ole Miss actually got off easy with their sanctions. The fact they were proactive in the mess they found helped.

70  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: So Currie was fired for cause... on: December 01, 2017, 06:08:30 EST
Someone will pay him a chunk of money to remain silent. Also if he spills the beans, he will never work in athletics again. They are a closed group not prone to talking openly about each other.
71  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: I can't believe it.....I actually agree with John Adams. on: December 01, 2017, 12:00:03 EST
Tnphil, you need to get a beer (or two or maybe three) and sit down and drink slowly. Agreeing with John Adams about anything will get you yelled at by any TN board you go to. Take a deep breath, several drinks, and come back with a mea culpa before lightning strikes you dead.

That being said, he does speak the truth.
72  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How bout bringing in the Mad Hatter & Tee Martin.... on: November 30, 2017, 11:52:37 EST
You people do realize hat makers became known as a Mad Hatter when the mercury they used to tan leather to make hats drove them insane. Les acted crazy and the reason his offenses mostly stank the place up was he dictated how the OC ran the team and would not let the OC run the offense. Boy, Tennessee needs another offensive genius here to run their infallible offense. Les had no problem getting Louisiana boys to come to LSU because they wanted to stay in-state. Les did not recruit that great at Okie State.

It does not look like a lot of teams on the market have looked at Les. That says a lot about what schools feel about his coaching ability.
73  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Looks like we dodged Doeren, but I begin to wonder............... on: November 30, 2017, 08:58:41 EST
Wanting the job and being able to succeed in it are not the same.
74  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: How bout bringing in the Mad Hatter & Tee Martin.... on: November 30, 2017, 08:56:46 EST
Wanting the job and actually being able to succeed at it are not the same thing. Tee will only come here as head coach. And Les would under no circumstances keep his mishandling paws out of the offense.

If we have run out of options, I choose Tee Martin. Kiffiin is a low-life..I will not finish. There may be children present.
