What momentum? Lady Vols losing three top players, they have no proven point guard or ball handlers on the squad, no one but Diamond that can shoot the ball and hope it goes in, and zero (0) recruits. If based on their history with concussions, Reynolds may never play again. There is nothing about the Lady Vols that promises any improvement. Holly does not have a recruiter on staff and she has not proven to be a closer or have an eye for the talent you need to win at the upper level. With her as head coach, the Elite 8 is the best we can hope for.
Yes they are to be congratulated, but the team this year proved they do not have any proven talent to compete for better than 4th in SEC. Throw a zone and zone press at them and they become a turnover machine. Anyone that believes they can get better also must have believed that Dooley was going to get it done in football. So no, I have zero thoughts Holly can every win unless she completely revamps her coaching staff.
Walk off.....Game over.

I've been playing, watching, and coaching basketball for 45+ years and I've never seen anything like the last 40 seconds of that game. UNI really fell apart.
Rule #1: Don't catch the ball in the deep corner against the trap. You are done!
Rule #1a: If hopelessly trapped without a timeout, throw the ball toward your goal - not toward the opponent's goal.
I really feel for those players and coaches. I've been on the horrible end of some late game losses and I know that I wouldn't be getting any restful sleep for days, maybe weeks. That one will be tough to get over.
Yep....that last 44 seconds reminds me of our football team finding and inventing ways to lose late in ballgames. We've written the book on how to choke a game away the past several years. We seem to add a chapter to the book every year.

Frankly, I will be shocked if the Lady Vols win the first game. IMO they will come home from Arizona to sulk over another disappointing loss. For whatever reason (Holly being in over her abilities is my #1), she and her coaching staff just cannot make their girls improve and plan as a team. Loyal fans are being to sound like Cubs fans: Wait until next year!! With Holly, next year is never gonna get here. Unless she gets walk-ons or just signs eligible players, she may not have a full team soon.
Agree. When you don't have even 1 recruit in this class there's major issues. Not 1 player in the top 100 gave UT a sniff...bad! Also there isn't one coach on the staff that can coach offense.....Holly and staff still living and coaching in the 90's....play defense and rebound. In today game with better coaches and players that won't cut it. If you score in the mid 50's in this day you will not beat the top programs. Holly won pretty good early with Pats recruits that had Pats personality.....They are gone and the program is sinking. Zero votes in the last USAToday poll and ranked at 36 in the last AP poll. Never thought I'd see that....ever.

With the resources UT has and the fan support (year in and out in the top 5-8) in attendance...there is no reason we aren't in the top 4-5 in the SEC most years and in the dance 3 out of every 5 year. IMO, no excuse.
The SEC has upgraded in coaches the past 2-3 years.....Barnes at UT, Martin at USC, Fox at UGA, Pearl at Auburn, Howland at MSU...then you have A&M and KY. I think the coach at Bama is a good one and has/will improve them a lot. Recruiting has to improve across the board in the SEC....some of those issues are like this year...14 teams in the SEC and we only get 3 teams in and Vandy is in a play-in game and gets beat 20 by a mid-major. Recruits look at this and see only 3 out of 14 get in and say I'm going to a different conference where I have a better chance at the dance.
SEC has to play better and schedule better non-conference games and win the fair share of those games. USC won 24 games and got left out because of the sorry OOC schedule. Barnes is improving our OOC schedule. Yesterday we signed on to play UNC there next year and then they come to Knoxville in 2017.

We finally got justice in a game with no time left on the clock.....I wouldn't have been shocked in the least if the refs had of come back and said....not only is the basket good, but for the hell of it we are giving him a 3 pointer. ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/1naughty.gif) Great win...and $crew Vandy ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/boid.gif)

I've heard they just don't have talent and one of the best players left the team? Also heard he's got a highly ranked class coming in with a 5* PG and a couple more highly ranked commits.
Pearl himself said on a radio interview about 3 weeks ago that there was a lot of difference in the UT team he took over and the Auburn team he took over. He said he took over a team with good talent when he got to UT.....not so at Auburn. Just what he said.
Pearl came to UT with a lot of energy and salesmen ship...got the UT fan base who was busting at the seams for a good program behind him and the team...and with some talent got off to a great start. I'm not sure folks at Auburn give a hoot about basketball.

IMO, good pickup....but the Titans have so many issues I'd hate to be the one in charge of their draft day. OL is a major issue....need WRs that can play more than 2 games without being on the IR list (much like UT's WRs). Defensive backfield has been pitiful and a lot of that is no pressure from the defensive front. Their punt game and field goal kicker is pretty good......So there's that ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Fan support is declining....I know folks that have been ticket holders since day 1 that have cancelled their season tickets. The whole organization is a total cluster. ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/boid.gif)

State needs to go ahead and start repairing the right lanes among it's highways before the bill it made a law if it's done so. Hell, that's the main reason I can't ride in the right lane here in West TN on 51 Potholes big enough to hide Hoffa's hole family.
Agree, Ripley. Not too many years ago I thought we had some of the best roads in the country. Gone downhill the past few years for sure.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Interesting Hyams article outlining many of the Title IX lawsuit charges
|
on: March 06, 2016, 01:40:11 EST

Well, I've mostly held my tongue and reserved judgement on this case, because the nature of a civil suit is that the plaintiff's case is put on public display first before the defense gets a chance for discovery and response. Right now, the defense hasn't even begun to present their case, so that could change the picture drastically. But let's be honest here- it may not PC to say so, but the welfare of the football program is going to be the overriding factor in a decision to settle. And it appears that this is already having an effect on recruiting. In what is possibly the strongest year ever for in-state recruits, we're currently sitting on a big fat goose egg. We've lost couple highly rated commits already, and though they didn't come out and say so, it's hard to imagine that this case (and the negative recruiting from our rivals that comes with it) didn't play some part in their decisions. We could fight these charges and maybe even win- but that could take 2-3 years. By that time, at this rate, we could be back to a Dooley-esque talent level. ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/frown.gif) IIRC those 2 de-committed before the lawsuit came out?
