After I left Chattanooga to attend UT in Knoxville, I never had the urge to ever live in Chattanooga again. My home is now with my wife, not where I grew up.

I like your attitude.

My preacher has counseled literally hundreds of marriages (he is in his late 70s) and he often says from the pulpit that three things break up marriages more than anything else - money, in-laws, and sex.

I have seen prospective future in-laws just about ruin a promising relationship lately.

I was dating a young lady in Chat right around the time the revival got going (1997).  We used to go to the down town area and have some fun.  There was a piano bar I recall and a few other attractions.  Not sure when the revival started, but it was well along by then.

Some fond memories...

Fantastic

My impression is that it's routine for bowl games.

Maybe not back in the day, but hey, we don't hitch up horses to wagons much anymore either.
8956  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Who says we aren't snakebit? on: June 10, 2015, 11:50:44 EDT

Routine.  He has talent, but I hardly thought the future of our program hinged on him.  This occurs at every school.

okay I'll check with my bank.  hopefully they have a prepaid card with a chip in it
8958  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Hello From The South of France on: June 03, 2015, 11:32:01 EDT
. Get a prepaid Visa card and load it with some cash then go across the pond.  All the new prepaid cards are chipped and it is the best way to protect yourself plus it is useful at restaurants and shops as well.  Prepaid is the way to go and you can reload them just by calling your bank and getting them to transfer money into the account number on the card.

Thanks.  As it turns out, my bank told me that my ATM card will work overseas provided the network is there and that I file some paperwork with them online ahead of time so that they know I will be withdrawing money in France.

But I do still want a credit card with a chip.  I checked at Wal-Mart.  The ones they had there had lots of fees and did not appear to have a chip.

My American Express card already has a chip.  Is that widely accepted in France?

I will likely get a prepaid one regardless.  Thanks for the advice.

Well I was thinking 8-4 would be an accomplishment this year, so 7.5 doesn't bother me much.

The biggest question is our OL.  They improved at the end of the season, but they were so bad they could improve tremendously and still have a ways to go.  My expectation is that they will start clicking about midseason, we will go on a nice run, and 2016 will be fantastic.

What gives me some hope for this year is that our major opponents all face issues.

Florida - new coach.  Will take time to rebuild that offense even though he is an accomplished offensive coach.
Uga - new QB and new OC
Bammer - new QB and Lane Kiffin. Plus D not at their usual standards
USC - we have shown we can handle the ole ball sack
Arkansas - no vertical speed at WR. Offense thus limited

I don't see a team on that list we are incapable of beating.  Doesn't mean we get them all, or even a majority, but I do think we beat a team or two we are not supposed to.

Heck, we almost beat uga two years in a row anyway.
8960  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Who here has AT&T U-Verse? on: May 31, 2015, 05:08:24 EDT
Well, looks like I'm sticking with comcast.  Got them to match AT&T's price, plus they're upgrading me to 50M internet and giving me the fancy new DVR that records 5 shows at once.  I'm satisfied.

Wow nice.  I need to go ahead and do this between Dish and Direct.  Should have done about a year ago.

Some intersting recruiting tidbits today.  It looks like Jarret Guarantano could pay big dividends for us in NJ recruiting.  There are four other top-100 guys in the state (including the nation's #1 RB and #1 DT), and it looks like they'll ALL be visiting UT with JG next month.  If we can just get one or two of them...

The hits keep coming in recruiting.

The Vols may well have finally turned this thing around.
8963  Sports / VTTW Message Board / OJ I reckon you heard about Dr. Julian on: May 27, 2015, 02:56:14 EDT
My HS band director was a protege of his (and is now the director at UGa) and so I heard much about him going through band at Doyle High in south Knoxville.  He was a tremendous band director for UT.
8964  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Whatever happened to Riley Ferguson?......... on: May 27, 2015, 02:52:20 EDT
I'm glad the JUCO route seems to be working for him.

That he liked Dooley better than Jones tells me we dint want the guy anyway.

The fact that he was on that Elite 11 show caused many to overate him IMO.  "bubba I seen em on TEEVEE!  Hes a gudun!"

Yep.

I'm pretty much an addict.

8967  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Go see the new Mad Max on: May 26, 2015, 06:30:16 EDT
I've heard it is better than people think it is. I plan to see it.  My gripe is that Hollywood is starting to get lazy. Everything is a remake of some old show or book or comic book. I know it is because of the easy money. Not a lot of original writing or so it seems. Just saw 'Unbreakable" this weekend. Very intense movie. Great true story. Some of the effects in the Mad Max movie look great. The Jurassic World movie looks kinda cool too. But how many man-made dinosaurs on the loose movies are they gonna have? I guess Spielberg needs the money..LOL.

agree.  What's truly bad is Marvel rebooting Spiderman and now the Fantastic Four.  I can understand Star Trek doing a reboot after what...60 years and movies by both the original cast and the Next Generation, but the original Spiderman is only about 15 years old.  That's too quick.

I was a huge Spidey and FF fan when I was a kid and the LOTR was about my favorite book.  So you can imagine the first decade of the 2000s was my alltime favorite for movies.  This remake shizzle is getting old though...they should at least wait a while!

I do recommend Mad Max though.  It's not a remake, it's another sequel, and a good one IMO.
8968  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Go see the new Mad Max on: May 25, 2015, 10:20:36 EDT
It's well worth it.  It's most similar to Road Warrior though the beginning is a bit like Thunderdome.  It's basically non-stop action but the plot is pretty good and is more than enough to support the action.  I was pleasantly surprised...I was expecting a bad remake of Road Warrior but it's an all new story that can fit into the chronology (how exactly I don't know...maybe it's the fourth?).

I saw it in 3D and although not the best 3D I have seen it's worth the extra.

This might be the best of the lot actually, although I will always love Road Warrior for it's roots in the early 80s (all the punk-rock type thugs  ).
8969  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Peyton's tribute to David Letterman on: May 25, 2015, 05:59:22 EDT
I liked Letterman a lot in the 80s and early to mid 90s.  But then he got stale.  Same ole, same ole, over and over again.  Still far better than Leno though, who I truly despise both as a human being and a bland, unfunny so-called comedian.

I would still watch Letterman occasionally and felt he was the best late night guy until Fallon came along.  The remark about Palin's daughter was in fact pretty low, but I was more disgusted by the video of him having sex with an employee.

Still and yet, I watched the final show and enjoyed even though I had not watched him in a few years.  I appreciate the laughs he did give me, and he is a Hoosier so there's that.
8970  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: What do you think our record will be after the first 4 games. I am going out on on: May 25, 2015, 05:48:48 EDT
I thought the OU QB was gone, but he's not apparently.  If they were replacing a qb I'd feel real good.

As it is, our offense, at home, with many more games and a better, more experienced QB and additional 5-star RB will be much, much better than what we saw last year, and OU was not known for D last year.  That gives me great hope.

Our D is back and is pretty tough.  Key match-up there might be our secondary vs. their WR.

I will be going again with a close friend who is an OU grad, so I am looking forward to it very much.
8971  Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: Need a new HVAC on: May 25, 2015, 03:05:27 EDT
Saved you $1500?  That's great, 'cause that's his exact consulting fee!

Hehe...it ended up being more like $2500 actually.

CO it was almost eerie.  The biggest gap I found for a similar (or mostly similar) unit was $3600 (although the low end never nailed it down exactly).  The highest to what I got was $3000.  The low bid just didn't have his shizzle together.

It was cool (no pun intended) how it went down.  The guy came Friday at 10 am (after the low phone bid missed his third consecutive appointment to nail it down). At 10:30 am I accepted his bid and by 3:30 pm I had a new unit.  They almost never turn it around that fast but the cool weather helped tremendously.

Thanks all.

The check is in the mail.

It's like reading Greek.   I have no idea what you are saying. dance:

I did get to see a game in Dodger stadium last Wednesday though, while on a business trip.  It's a beautiful park.  Best of all, as a life long Reds fan, the Dodgers lost.

CO, so far your advice has saved me $1500

A local company submitted a bid today and by far are the best option.  They were also recommended by a friend.  Now the only thing to decide is if I want one more bid tomorrow.  I am going to try and decide on a solution by Wednesday.

Thanks all for the advice.

Every other year I do "go to", for about 4 hours, MAX.  Last year seemed like longer due to the cold and the OT.  However, picking up enough dropped towels cover my garage floor after the "sandstorm people" left was PRICELESS
