They just love to stir up sh*t. I'm suprised that there hasn't been any violent episodes during Their protests of Funerals and other things!

Huh? Protest what?
Their website(I went to it after I read They were protesting)said The shootings were(in Their opinions) God's punishment for Connecticut legalising Gay Marriage. They're protesting over that

Any high profile funeral to get publicity. Laws need to be changed to make funerals exempt from any type of protest.

Westboro needs to be designated as a hate group. The fact that they hide behind religion and get tax exempt status makes me sick.

Kansas tried and the Supreme Court said that law violated Westboro's 1st amendment rights

That is a group of really sick individuals.
I have a lot of respect for the Patriot Riders for what they do for families of military casualties.

The Westboro Baptist Church people are just as nutty as Adam Lanza. They just take advantage of the First Amendment rather than the Second.
Having had occasion to speak to some of the Phelps (ol' Fred is their "pastor" and the whole family runs the church; all of them are attorneys), I can say first-hand that they truly are delusional.
I've sat under preaching in Baptist churches all my life. I've never heard anything like the crap the fools from Westboro spew. They are a blight to Christianity and to organized religion in general.
About five years ago, there were four high school cheerleaders killed in my hometown. As soon as the news hit the national wire, I got a notice in my office from Westboro saying they were going to come and picket the funerals. We all know how persuasive East Tennessee rednecks can be, and Westboro wound up backing away from their plans. It was probably for their own good.

I am no fan of organized religion, and ever day that goes by, my distaste for it gets stronger.

I'm a recovering Baptist myself ( ) but I know there are true humanitarians in all faiths. May I present the fine members of the Laramie Project with their 10-foot homemade angel wings designed to block the view both ways. They're going to make the trip from Durham to Newtown. I hear they're not a fair-weather sort of group.
