The first round of the playoffs were just played on Friday.  Four more weeks to go, as the Blue Cross Bowl games will be played the first Thursday through Saturday (8 games, 2 private division games on Thursday, 1A,3A, and 5A on Friday, and then 2A,4A, and 6A on Saturday) the first weekend of December.

No major upsets, although there were some 5 beating 4 (out of 8 seeds in each of the 4 quads) and a couple of 6 beating 3 games, but its really hard to call those upsets.

Two defending champions - 1A Gordonsville and 5A Beech lost in the first round, but both would have been considered long shots to repeat.

The biggest surprise to me was that the #1 seed in 6A, Maryville, struggled with #8 seed Bradley Central.  That game was actually tied at 21 at the half before Maryville pulled away in the second half and won 42-21.

That said, Maryville has had years where they struggled in round one and then blew away the field the rest of the playoffs.  Wouldn't shock me to see that pattern repeat itself this year.

It was tied 14 at the half. Bradley wasn't a bad team. Their QB and receivers were pretty good. Best QB Maryville saw so far. One of the Bradley coaches told me the QB missed a few games.
