Dang! We were just getting ready to get tickets to see ZZ Top at the Buffalo Chip during the Sturgis Rally in in a week or so. They had played their last few concerts with his sound tech Elwood standing in for him on bass. Just another death of someone I grew up being a big fan of. He was having hip issues and was taking it easy for a few weeks. He died in his sleep. RIP Dusty.

Jesus just left Chicago....

I remember when I was in HS - early 80s - I went with the family and some neighbors to the Rendez Vous for some ribs.  Pretty sure it was a school night, but we were celebrating a birthday or something.  Anyway I went with my older brother to the bar to buy some drinks for the adults in the party and lo and behold the dudes from zztop were right there at the bar having a beer or three.   This was before Eliminator, but it was still pretty hard at that time NOT to recognize the band in public, if you know what I mean.  They said hello and were pretty cool just hanging out and shootin the shizzle with everyone at the bar.  I learned a few years later that they recorded all their music in Memphis (for a time, at least).  So it was then I realized they must have been working on Eliminator at the time, which is interesting.  Maybe it wasn't the best ZZ album, maybe it was, but it certainly was a mountainous, culture changing mega hit.

My earliest memories was Tres Hombres
Saw them then and LOVED the music

Sometime in the 90s, I wanna say circa 1997, I was at a local watering hole called the CrossRoads that hosted a lot of indie bands.  They held a contest and a colleague from work won 2 ZZ Top tickets in Birmingham on the 5th row in the outdoor Bham coliseum. I took a date down there, and let's just say she was really appreciative of the opportunity.

I never did get a chance to thank the guy who gave me the tickets, because that was an awesome concert.  Not a huge ZZ Top fan, but I do appreciate them and like a few of their songs quite a bit.  Eliminator came out while I was in HS, it was okay, I like their earlier stuff better.  My favorite is probably "Sharp Dressed Man".

One of the better concerts I ever attended.

RIP Dusty
