I was suckered into the Gruden speculation but these Grudenites who are still holding on are just being foolish now. Vic Grider resigned tonight following a hugely successful career at South Pittsburg and the Grudenites have convinced themselves that he was the TFP writer's source ("someone who had been approached about being an assistant on Gruden's staff") from last week's story, and his resignation tonight confirms that Gruden is coming to UT.

Seriously. I don't know any other explanation other than these people being totally delusional.

Wonder why he resigned.

Wonder why he resigned.

I've heard rumors, but they aren't linked to Gruden or UT in any way.

OTOH, I did just receive a text from someone who knows Grider well who swears that this is 100% tied to Gruden. His exact quote, "The only thing that would make Vic leave South Pitt is UT."

I'm just not buying into the Gruden talk again. Too much doesn't make sense. I can see UT going back and putting on the full-court-press with Gruden. But this talk about how Gruden has been the guy all along and everything else is a smokescreen...no way.

To get Gruden, we would have to, IMO, offer a bare minimum of $6 million, and likely closer to 8.  That's just MO.

It would not be without precedent.  I can't recall exactly, but I think when bammer offered saban $4 mil, there wasn't even anyone making $3 mil.  So offering substantially more than the top paid coach has happened. Exactly once, but it has happened.

But I couldn't justify it, because saban already had won an NC, while Gruden has very limited college experience.

The only coach I think would justify $7 million+ a year is Carroll, and he is tainted by NCAA trouble and so, I reluctantly agree, is a non-starter.

Carroll was my Gruden before there was a Gruden.
