So whose death would you say was the worst musical tragedy?  Buddy Holly, Big Bopper or Ritchie Valens?  I'd say Buddy Holly but I saw the movie "La Bamba" and it sort of implied that Valens' death was the worst musical tragedy since the untimely death of Mozart.

Holly without question. 

Valens was very talented, but Holly was an musical innovator.

The Big Bopper had a gimmick.

Buddy Holly without a doubt.  Was a music rock pioneer recording artist and music innovator.  The Beatles based a lot of their early band style on Buddy and R&B music. Rock and roll owes a great deal to Buddy.  His music is still great to listen to.

Vaguely remember that happening. I have an aunt that is only a few years older than me and recall going down to Pat's Drive In with her and Holly playing on the Wurlitzer. Awesome then and now.
