Jack Sells was a Tennessee guy.  He wasn't a Croc.

Gillespie may have played at UF, but apparently he isn't in a hurry to get back there.  Mushmouth offered him a slot on the staff last year, but Gillespie turned him down.

On the surface Gillespie looks to be a good hire.  He meets the criteria that most wanted to see - he's a younger, black coach with a good record thus far of recruiting good football players and he is familiar with the SEC.  Whether or not he can coach a lick, we'll find out soon enough.

The first call he needs to make is to Jalen Hurd.

And by the way, rumor I am hearing is that Hurd's coach at Beech has applied for the open Oak Ridge job.

Yea, I read later on that he had turned down mushchamp. Its a small victory but I'll take what we can get at this point and time.

I am more interested in how steep the learning curve will be for the new staff in the SEC, outside of the talent difference between us and the top of the SEC.

I'm really not worried about that at all.  Jones and his staffs have been able to quickly adjust to the level of competition from Central Michigan to Cincinnati.   Yes, it's a different world in the SEC, but Jones history has been one of success.  That's an intangible that can't be taught.  You either have it or you don't.  Jones and his staff will be fine.

My understanding is one of his first calls, if not the first, was to Hurd.

Maybe Hurd's coach should chill a bit before he makes a move ...

I understand why he is looking.  Oak Ridge is still one of the best paying school districts in the state, certainly well above where Sumner County is.  With the extra coaching supplement and perks that the head football coach at Oak Ridge is privileged to, he could easily increase his income by as much as $30K to $40K per year.  With a state championship on his resume, now is the time to move if he is going to move.  Beech returns Hurd next year, but not much more from the state championship team.
