The 3 likely candidates seem to be Strong, Fedora, and Golden and the more I read the more I think our next coach will be Larry Fedora. Rumor has it that he will meet with Hart tomorrow. He currently makes $1.7M with a $2.3M buyout. He looks as if he can recruit as he has UNC in the Top20 in recruiting rankings while the school is on probation. There could be another Gruden avalanche or Fisher could opt to coach in the SEC, but until then I think that this is our candidate pool.

I think the current non-gruden mania leader is Fisher. I would prefer Strong over Fisher due to Strong's defensive background but wouldn't lose sleep over Fiher's hiring. Fedora or Golden = meh As I noted yesterday, I'd rater have Gruden mania over those two

If it's Fedora, we'll be the best dressed fans in the conference.

I think (too lazy to look it up) UNC didn't play Clemson or FSU.

In terms of likelihood, I would currently rank it like this:
1.) Patterson 2.) Fisher 3.) Fedora 4.) Golden 5.) Jones
That's assuming Gruden is out of the equation because I don't know what the heck to think about that.

The next head football coach at The University of Tennessee will be Jon Gruden. No if's, and's, or butt's.

Why no Charlie Strong??
I just think he is a better recruiter. Strong may be the guy but Fedora won the conference championship at Sou Miss and the team he left is now winless, and he left them with 13 returning starters. He has guided UNC to an 8-4 record, so it may be good to think of a higher profile hire, but he would be solid IMO.

Fedora has been quiet during this while others on the list have been quoted in the media as staying. I think he is the current #2 if Gruden is not coming. To be fair to him, if Gruden is not the choice, I hope it is not an official statment by Gruden tomorrow morning followed by a press conference to announce Fedora that afternoon. Not enough time for the fanbase to decompress and accept.

I agree. This is the University of Tennessee (currently the best open coaching job in college football)! Why would we settle for Fedora?

I agree, except that I don't know if this fanbase will accept. And the decompression will be from the explosion of anger and disappointment. This whole Gruden thing has been built up so much and allowed to go on so long that anyone else is going to be a major bummer for most of the fans.
