It's not like he's trying to pronounce a hard to pronounce name or something... he repeatedly said "Marion Walls" all night long. That isn't a stumble or a slip of the tongue or anything like that. I think it's unrealistic to expect perfection out of anybody in their job, but I don't think that repeated muffing of one of the easiest names on the roster should really go unnoticed and uncommented on. That's akin to laziness and likely the result of bad preparation, and it's not unrealistic to expect someone to do their job well. UT fans spend a lot of time wanting to be big league so I think complaints about such things are warranted. You sure are angry these days. You getting enough sleep? My personal favorite was when he called Texas Tech the "Red Devils". Personally, I think Bobby's incompetence (or inebriation...potato, potahto) adds a certain charm to our gameday experience, and I'll be sad to see him go.

I'd say that conference realignment is going to put a strain on the yearly matchup with Alabama no matter how you shake it. Which sucks, but it's apparently what everyone wants (the realignment, that is).
There have been a few people already advocating for this series to end as an annual meeting, including Tennessee's very own (and much loved) John Adams.
Not that I agree, but I can see the reasoning of those who would want to end that rivalry. Losing to bammer sucks, but beating them could be even worse- some redneck psychopath could blow up the Vol Navy, or inject Smoky with parvo.

Sports / VTTW Message Board / Introductory pressers are always exciting...

...But I've had about enough excitement. In the past two years (and change), we've been introduced to two new football coaches, one new basketball coach, and one new baseball coach. In 15 minutes, we'll meet a new athletic directer. And you have to think that next year, we'll be replacing the only women's basketball coach most of us have ever known. I'm ready for a little stability.

...that the only two games with any national interest tomorrow are being televised at the same time, on the same family of networks (ABC/ESPN)? Who made that brilliant programming decision?

Ahhh yes, the night of the drunk corndogs. Bandit and I pitching up with 50 or so other VOL fans, putting up with the loudmouth, drunk, obnoxious (but I repeat myself) corndogs in our face but leaving early, before we had even tied the game up. The suddenly quiet corndogs not liking me pointing out that they had their loudly, repeatedly shouted demand for Clausen to play met. I remember well after the game had ended a corndog that still had his head in hs hands trying to figure out how Miles had blown the game. Also, Trooper darn near knocking me half way to Knoxvegas with a chest bump after the game, and coach Caldwell with one of the biggest stoogies smiling in content after the game. Amazingly enough, their were no drunk corndogs around to rock the buses or break a window with their beer cans after the game. What I liked about it was that the corndogs had it set up so they couldn't lose. They moved the game to a Monday night, so virtually zero UT fans could attend (I had to eat my ticket). They made us bus down the day of the game, because they supposedly had no hotel rooms to put our team up in (even though their OWN DAMN TEAM stayed off campus in a hotel). And of course those drunken #badword#s damaged our team bus on the way in. We were supposed to be lambs on the way to slaughter. This was the Washington Generals going to Rucker Park to play the Globetrotters. This was Rocky training in a remote Siberian outpost and then going to Moscow to kick Drago's ass. And then after it was over, it was like we had killed Santa Claus or something. SO satisfying.

At least for the first time in forever, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I expect to be greatly improved this year. Next year, we should be hell on wheels. Depending on early departures, we could be even better in 2013. And with the NCAA cloud now lifted, we're now recruiting on equal footing with everyone else for the first time in 3 years.
Not only that, but it appears that Dooley is recruiting a higher caliber of person as well (dare I say, 1% of 1%? Nah...), and once they get here, the VFL program is making them even better. That program is already making us better off the field. And if it helps to reduce attrition, it will yield on-field results as well. If we win another NC in the next 5-10 years, I think we'll look back at Dooley's VFL program as a major reason for it.
