Sports / VTTW Message Board / Re: The reality of recruiting

Do you think Jon Gruden can turn 4 star and 5 star recruits to UT this recruiting season? You always hear about relationships, but maybe? My $0.02 worth is that if you have the face of Monday Night Football coming into your home to talk about coming to UT, then yes, I think 4 and 5 start talent will pay attention and listen. Not sure how many he will get to turn towards UT, but he will at least get them to add UT to their list if they haven't already. The goal of every one of them is to get to the NFL, and when you have one of the most recognizable faces that is connected with the NFL, a lot of them are going to pay attention.

On the Cats Pause message board They seem to think UT and Auburn will be fighting over Bob Petrino and UK will be stuck with Sonny Dykes of La Tech. One Mildcat fan thought Tennessee couldn't afford someone with Petrino's baggage and needed to get somebody like Tommy Tuberville.
Tell ya what. We'll drop the fight for Petrino and just let you have him. Consider it our early Christmas gift to you.

For league games, if our current average holds it is the worst SEC defense since 1979 Vanderbilt, which gave up 45.3 in SEC play. This UT defense is currently giving up 43.7. Next on the list would be 1995 South Carolina at 40.0, which is the only other one of two other SEC defenses to give up an average of 40+ PPG in conference play since that Vandy team.
So if UT gives up 58+ points in its last two games (likely, IMO) it will tie or beat that South Carolina team and will have given up an average of 40+ points, becoming only the third fourth SEC team in the last 33 years to be that bad. To sink below that 1979 Vandy team UT would have to give up 101 points in its last two games, so that's probably unlikely.
Still this paints a pretty ugly picture of how pathetic this defense is. All data is from Ken Massey, btw.
Edit: Creek Walker is right . . . 2003 MSU also gave up 40+, so we'd be the 4th team. Good catch, Creek.
Well, we won the MNC one year after posting the worse Scoring Defense in 2009. So, there is some hope (but only if you pay for a phenom QB, amiright Vinnie?).

Gus Mahlzan would be good candidate for Auburn
I'm not sold on him for a Head Coach. We are going to need a strong personality to come in and take charge of the whole football organization, and have the balls to keep the good ol boy network, including Pat Dye, at arm's length. I'm not so sure Mahlzan is the right man for that job.

Too bad Hamilton burned all the bridges to the TCU Head Football Coach
I'm hoping we (Auburn) has Patterson on our list. I was pulling for him back in '08, and hope he is at least on the list.

Curious where you think this season is going. Obviously they are setting things up for next year’s final season. It looks like they’re setting up Dexter with a companion that gets him, a companion that he will fall in love with. I love the villain this year, wonder how Dex kills him – or does Hannah do it to SAVE him? I am interested to see how Deb changes, looks like she really wants Hannah gone and is asking Dex to kill her. Does SHE kill her instead? That would be interesting.
Couple of guys who are checking out IMO: Quinn looks like he is headed for a bullet in the head. Batista is being written out, looks like. He is not doing much any more, buying a restaurant? LaGuerda will continue her search for the bay harbor butcher, and will probably figure out Dex is the guy – will someone kill her? Seems like this year we have three protagonists who might kill, deb, Hannah, and Dex. If you can call Hannah a protagonist.
Or maybe Dexter kills Hannah to save Deb. I have to say this season is a little less predictable than previous seasons. It'll be interesting to see how the Dexter/Hannah/Deb story unfolds. Somehow, I don't think Hannah survives until the final season. And I don't think Quinn is done yet. I would not be surprised to see he and Deb's stories start to intertwine again. Who knows. Maybe the entire police force will die in a fiery explosion that is caused by one of Mazuka's kinky experiments gone wrong.

In Defense of Tnflower, there was a report a few days ago that said Chizik had been fired, I know because I heard the same thing.
The report, in the form of an AuburnUndercover.com article, was stating that the Auburn President had essentially put together a plan in case Chizik was fired (he's leaving that work for out idiot AD). There was never a report that stated Chizik was fired. Just to be clear. But he is certainly a dead man walking.

Hubbs saying he is done but that they might not fire him this week because they think it's not fair to the players since they still have a chance to go to a bowl.
That makes sense. Which means that if UT loses to Vandy, CDD is gone within 24 hours I am guessing. Happy Thanksgiving.

No it wasn't. Bama defensive player clearly jumped, and drew the OL to jump. That call is made in college and the pros.
Yep. Legit call. And it was fun seeing Sabear whining, yet again, to the officials. One of these days, I hope one of them has enough and cold cocks that son of a bitch!

Not doubting you, but where are you seeing this? It isn't on the ESPN SEC Blog, which you would think Lowe would have an article on. Also, I can't find any media source in Alabama claiming this?
He's not out. There was an article that came out on auburnundercover.com. The article can be found here: http://www.mrsec.com/. The wording makes you think, though, that at the end of the season, Chizik will be out of a job. Nothing is official, but if our esteemed President does not deny this within 24 hours, I think it is a done deal.

Thanks for the update guys, glad to hear it. While I am a huge Star Wars fan, I haven't been hanging breathlessly on every press release by Disney, so I actually had no idea that the sequels were the main reason they made the purchase, as you seem to imply. For all I know, they might sit on the product and collect merchandizing like they did for years with the Muppets, though they eventually did do a Muppet movie or two.
So...sequels to Star Wars. All for it! I hope that they follow Lucas' general idea for the movies, at least. He was a bad to horrible director, but his overall storytelling ability is among the best IMO.
With Disney now in charge, I am guessing that the Ewoks will be a reappearance.

I'll never forgive my mom for selling all my Star Wars stuff in a garage sale. I had probably 75 of the figures, An X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Millenium Falcon, Landspeeder, and probably more that I can't remember. That stuff would be worth a fortune today. I also had a pair of red and black Air Jordan I's that I outgrew about a month after I got them. No telling what they would be worth now. ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/1banghead.gif) The X-wing fighter and the Millenium Falcon were my favorite toys as a kid. I played them till they fell apart. I killed off Hans many times over. I always thought Chewbacca would go all rabid on him and eat him alive.

Serious question: Would you take Tubs over Chizik? (Feel free to respond with "Would you take Fulmer over Dooley?" ![](https://volstothewall.com/board/Smileys/default/1laugh.gif) ) I will preface my comments with this one: I was not in favor of getting rid of Tubs in the first place. So, yes, I would take Tubs over Chizik. I don't think we would have had the multiple off-the-field issues over the last 12-15 months that, I think, has contributed to the piss-poor attitdue on the team, and would have continued to keep the good ol boy network, complete with Pat Dye's meddling.
