Acutally a bit worse than last week.  Poole did average 4.8 per carry though, while Lane was only 16 yards on 8 carries for a shizzlety 2.0.

As the game wore on, we looked MUCH BETTER though.  On the first two series I quickly learned why people were so upset last week.

Speaking of which, Craig James said early in the game that our Oline lacked good run blocking fundamentals, specifically they were not getting low enough nor driving into the D hard enough.

He's a fairly knowledgable guy on football, but if HE can spot this from the booth what does that say about our coaches?  If it really comes down to bad fundamentals, then I expect to see continued and massive improvement in this area as the season wears on.  With the talent we have on the Oline, there is absolutely no reason to not expect considerable run-blocking improvement.

All it takes is for one guy to miss his assignment or take a play off or only go 50% to get the rb blown up. I saw that today on several occasions.

Agree.  I am actually very optimistic on this.  I don't claim to be a great expert on running games, but just from years of fundamentally following football it seems to me that Olines start to really click after 1+ seasons of consistent starts.  Which means that in October I expect our run game to really start clicking.

It would help if we had some genuine studs at RB though.  I love Tauren Poole, but honestly he seems above average at best by SEC standards.  If only Brown had not been a self-centered #badword# maybe we would have the chance to really truly special on offense.  I like the direction we are headed in though.

Remember that against UF in '96, James was claiming that Peyton Manning had bad fundamentals. Piss on Craig James. I'll take our coaches' knowledge over his any day of the week. There's a reason he's in the broadcast booth and not in the coaching booth.

No kidding. Craig James has zero credibility.

Well I do think James is an asshat after the Tech fiasco with his spoiled brat son, lol.

Whatever the cause, early in the game his criticism of the OL was spot on.  They SUCKED on run blocking.  I am just happy they seemed to improve throughout the game.  That was just what we needed.  Hope they continue to improve.
