And if he (and his receivers) stay healthy this year, he could move up even farther.

If he can stay healthy this year along with DaRick and Hunter, he WILL be a first round pick. He was on pace for a monster year last year before his injury. He can put up 3500+ yards and 30 tds this year if healthy. Pro scouts believe he can make all the throws, and he is 6'6.  He could be a top 10 pick. in fact, the big lead has him as the #1 pick

If he's a #1 pick, it means we've had a helluva year!   My orange glasses point out that we have a great secondary for a 2 TD lead.    My standard glasses remind me we won ONE SEC game last year, in overtime, against Vandy

I never questioned that he could eventually be a no. 1 draft pick, but I did think it was silly any bloggers were talking about it prior to LAST SEASON.  Still do.

This year it's more appropriate, but it hasn't happened yet.  I still say he has yet to be really tested for a full season.  He played nothing but patsies in 2010, and last year the two best pass D's he faced were uga and .... wait for it.... KENTUCKY.  Seriously, UK was 28th in the country vs. the pass last year (a fact that seems to have escaped the notice of our coaching staff  ).

Let him get a full season under his belt and manage not to dodge the bammers and LSUs and then I'll be impressed.

But of course, I DO hope he has that kind of season.   Reading in an SI article still doesn't make it so though.

No, he has to perform and stah healthy, but these guys aren't pulling players out of thin air, they talk to scouts and do research before posting these... granted you will see changes, some will fall and others will pop up.

Pretty much what I said, but notice that even the article says he's "boom or bust".  Let's just hope it's boom.

Let me also add that this discussion is much more justified this year, and that it certainly is not a negative to have someone saying Tyler might be the 4th pick in the spring.  That's actually great.    But again, it's not a done deal, just speculation.

That's pretty much my attitude about it. I think he can be high NFL draft pick, but he needs more experience, and he needs to be more consistent and cut down on his mistakes.

And not to throw water on the fire, but the blogger in question is "McLovin" on the Dan Partick Show. I don't know how seriously he's taken as a serious NFL journalist. He has a habit of making outrageous predictions in the hope that they'll hit and make himself look like a genius. The fact he has Bray over Barkley, at this point anyway, doesn't appear very sound.

But OTOH, he did make a good point that the new rookie salary structure makes taking a risky pick less punitive. Perphaps that's a contributing factor as to why Tannehill went so early this year with his limited experience.
