Not really a close friend but his wife has been friends with my wife since they were 8 years old. We hung out together from time to time. He leaves behind a wife, an 18 year old son who just went off to college, and a 13 year old daughter. I think the son going off to college was the trigger for a lot of things... they are very close and the son was his life pretty much. He has been depressed... he had Meniere's Disease and couldn't work, and spent a lot of time thinking which is rarely good for anyone.

What makes it a tough situation for my wife is that she found out this morning as she was about to board a plane to Florida for a long weekend with her girlfriends, and she really didn't know what to do, so she got on the plane. I thought she did the right thing because her friend is going to be so inundated with details, plus she has her parents to be there for her, that my wife really couldn't offer much and can offer so much more as time goes on. But then my wife found out that the funeral is Saturday and she will miss it and she is beside herself right now.

Anyway... I feel so bad for all of them. His daughter is 13, poor girl. His son is likely crushed. And his wife lost her sister about 25 years ago in a car accident and it has haunted her for her entire life... just more stuff to deal with.

That's terrible. I'll be praying for his family.

Puts things in perspective.

Sorry to hear this. I don't understand suicide. So sad for those left behind.

Is going to need her for a lot longer than this weekend.  This is a marathon.
