I don't have any kids there, but I'm an alum. And it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they shut down the hoops program for a season (at least) and fired any coaches or administrators who were found liable. Ooltewah is far from a "thug school", but you wouldn't know it by the actions of the basketball team (and to a lesser extent, the football team) in recent years.
The OHS band was in the Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena this morning. Under normal circumstances, that would be a source of school and civic pride. But seeing as the hoops team has made national headlines for all the
wrong reasons in the past week, it's a shame that many probably saw them on TV and associated them with all things negative.
