…whom I was hoping Uros would knock the fizzle out last December, is entering the portal. He led the P12 in assists this year, and we’re desperate for help at PG. Should Rick pursue, or would he cause chemistry issues?

We obviously need help at PG, and isn't Uros a senior?

So he could simultaneously back up ZZ, commit physical fouls,  get called for technicals all the time, and just generally do stupid shizzle.

Sounds perfect to me!

We’re not likely to get ZZ back at least until SEC play begins, and he may not be full speed even then. So we’re going to need someone who can start for at least 1/3 of the season.

I think you have been misinformed.  ZZ should be able to play from the start of the season, but may not be full speed until SEC season, is more like it.

The exception would be if he did more than tear his ACL.  If he also significantly damaged the MCL, and/or had serious cartilage damage, it could go longer.

But I personally mostly recovered from two different ACL surgeries in 6 months, I am not a great athlete with all the support that ZZ has, and I was 44 on the second surgery.

So what you are saying about being unable to play at all until the start of the SEC season just doesn't add up to me.

Having said that, its likely if UTAD made that statement, they are just being conservative.  The same thing seemed to happen with Tua more recently.  He came back at least 2-3 months earlier than first projected.

But yeah, if ZZ is out, we will need someone.  The guy we had in round 2 did really well (M----hatever), maybe he could do it.  Barnes will have plenty of time to get one, or train up a replacement either way.

Okay so surgery wasn't until March 13, which changes things slightly, but only two weeks.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/zakai-zeigler-zero-doubt-tennessee-213717922.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9kdWNrZHVja2dvLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAH0xxw6Tu0CzWBnGUxL1On_D7EG_PeSpuXNu2eGlHUORePynZQ2zvoHXcEcv3a42SCZCvQjr5uUY0ftrNiA0imHeD_7aax5B9VM_ZwNDJBwSkX_8yrL_BfqixZFTRhD33WM_-oEOP-VytSk4cit1x6ry_4IjN9U7UI-DvLuTU1VM

He went through initial rehab before undergoing surgery. The doctors told him it was successful and was an “easy repair.” His road to recovery began immediately. Zeigler hopes to return in August or September when Tennessee goes through preseason practices. He credited his teammates with keeping his spirits up following his injury in the penultimate regular-season game.

So yeah, I'm not crazy.     The above makes much more sense. I'm not trying to make you look bad BDV, I just happen to understand ACL recovery really well.

There CAN be extenuating circumstances that make it worse, but ZZ doesn't seem to have that issue.

Only a two game sampling, but why not Mashack? He adds length and will only get better offensively. Basketball PG is a position that gets way over thought imo. Can you get the ball up court & can you pass the ball in the half court. What else am I missing?

Reminder that you're not the only one who's had ACL surgery around here.

Mine was in 2009, and my knee never did get back to where it was before. Oh, I can get around just fine, but I'll never run at a full sprint again. And (this one really hurts) I'll never ski again.

Now obviously college and pro athletes are a different case. They usually get the graft or synthetic replacement, which both heal better (but usually take longer to rehab). They also have unlimited time and resources to rehab, which most of us civilians don't have.

But the bottom line is it just varies from person to person. I remember when Kelly Jolly tore her ACL in November and was back the following March to lead us to a NC. Conversely, I look at the Braves' Ronald Acuna. He tore his ACL right before the All Star Break in 2021. He didn't return until late May of 2022, and even then was a shadow of his former self for the rest of the season.

I hope ZZ can come back quickly and at full strength. But we should all prepare ourselves for the fact that he might not.

That makes two of us never skiing again
I feel I'm on the steep gradient path to eventually knee replacement
Nothing I can really do

As far as Zakai goes, even if he makes it back for SEC play there is a good chance that initially he will not be fully back
At that point it is as much mental as physical
If he has the mental capacity that Kelly had (forged by Pat) then yeah he has a chance
(people say Barnes is tough on PGs, but he nothing compared to how tough Pat was, just ask Kelly)

or three of us.  I really miss skiing.  and being able to punt a football.  My brother and I made up this game Punt Wars where you would get out on the street and one streetlight was a goal and the other down the street was the second.  You defended your goal and any punt landing on the street beyond the lightpost was a score.  you had to punt from where you caught the punt or from where the punt ended up rolling.  I remember going home on Christmas and we were in our 30s and hell, even in our 40s, and we would go out on the street and play.  Cars would pass by and wonder what the F was going on, lol.  I lost my brother 9 years ago, so we haven't played since then.  I got really bad osteoarthritis in both my knees at about the same time that he had passed, and it has really sucked.  bone on bone in both knees.  constant "chronic" pain.  There is really no relief from it except for narcotics.  laying down, sitting, - NOPE.  Sitting just kills ya.  Standing is the worst.  It's been terrible. I probably should have gotten joint replacements years ago, but I have always been too fizzleing fat, and, LOL, too young.  About 6 years ago I began to get the same issues in my lower back.  I can keep that at bay with regular visits to the Chiropractor.  2 years ago my right hip joined the party and that about did me in.  FOr a while I would struggle just walking across the damn room.  It hurts ten time more than the knees.  I don't know if y'all have ever felt your shoulder almost pop out of socket - well that is what my hip feels like most of the time.  If i take a turn in just the wrong way - yikes, the agony.  I was already too damn heavy when I had the hip issues, but I packed on even more weight when it started bothering me.  I finally got the ship turned around last summer and have lost 110 lbs since then, but I have about that much more left to go.  I hope to start getting joint replacements this summer.  I guess I will start with this mother fizzleing hip.  I have an old HS teammate who does replacements and have heard he is a great orthopedic surgeon.  He's in Memphis.  Even though I am in Baltimore, I just might go down south and see him about it.  I gotta start lookin into it.  It would be great to be able to ski again or to punt a football, but I don't know if that is even possible, post surgery.  Probably not.  I would just settle for being able to walk with just a fraction of this fizzleing pain.  But I guess that ain't a guarantee.  /rant over - LOL.  Go VOLS tonight.  I almost got some tix for tonight at MSG, but they fell through.  It's just as well cuz going to stadia these days is kinda problematic for me.  I got to go to the Vikings playoff game back in Jan and that almost wasted me - probably would have kilt me if I hadnt lost all that weight.

My son played football starting in Pop Warner....Middle School....High School...4 years of college and was lucky to have only minor injuries during all those years.

Then while living and working in Hoover Al he played on a city adult touch football team....Several were former college football players. As luck would have it he tore his ACL and had surgery and I have to say he's done well and that was around 12 years ago. He runs in full marathons and hasn't had any issues after his full rehab.

At the time he was around 33 years old and had already hurt his lower leg pretty good playing in a softball league and missed some work.....He then tore his ACL and missed several days of work...I told him....Son, you have a family to support and playing these sports isn't supporting them abit. So he took up running...

Barnes could always recruit a couple of 5* point guards. But that would make too much sense. That's why there are none to be found now. Bad side, those 5* point guards are one and done frequently. Those Jr and Sr point guards are nice to have around.

UT had that guy last year. Think about this team with Chandler. It's hard to get it all together and keep it together. Ask Calipari. Ask any coach. College basketball is at an interesting point in it's evolution.

Other than smoking, & drug/alcohol abuse, excess weight is devastating for our health. Congrats on the weight loss. Keep going if you can.
