Nico was a bit unsettled last night

Probably due to the OL play
The OTs had a bad night and Sprags had a huge bust for a sack
Coop is hurt, h was really struggling the last two series

On the last drive Nico was just a half count late on two throws into zone coverage
One to the TE and one to Nimrod
Being just a hair late led the receiver into the next zone defender, usually the safety, on time both are 1st downs
Speaking of TEs, did Davis play?
Figured he would be in on the last drive but it was 87 and 19 at various points in the drive

Their LBs are good in zone, ours suck
The first quarter crosses in the middle were all on the LBs
Our LBs, across the board were horrible last night, one in particular

We NEVER stacked receivers
We ran one (1) switch route, which was our ONLY shot down field, where Nico overthrew an open Squirrell
The last drive we had Thornton, Nimrod and Brazzel as the receivers
Brazen (with Bru out) should be a good guy to go for in the red zone but his ability to get open is suspect
I was watching the receivers on the last play, nobody was open and really weren?t making am intense effort to get open, nobody urgency
Brazzel?s night was not good, at all
If Bru is going to miss time I think we would be better with Brazzell on the left (if he knows the route tree on that side( and Thornton on the right
I don?t remember us running a slant with a WR, just the TE and slot

The DL is overrated
The secondary isn?t that bad, though I thought one of the B/U didn?t play well last night, we spent a lot of time with 2 out of the lineup

IMO play calling was extremely poor
we checked into a run with 8 in the box once, why?
See above for more examples

Bottom line, coming off a bye week we seemed unprepared and not ready to play
That is unacceptable in my view

As usual, YMMV

You can?t see what did not happen , a slant. We did throw too the side line a million times and got nothing out of it. We need to let Nico play. He is our best hope to compete

We threw one slant, in the 4th, to Nimrod, for a completion - right slot, slant to the left, was open bigly

If Squirrel is going to miss some time Nimrod is a more than capable replacement
While not having Squirrel?s speed he has good speed and has the size to go across the middle

Thinking more about it, our offense last night was more like the offense in Heup?s 1st year, lot of outside WR screens
As Hendon matured into the QB role it started transitioning to what we eventually saw in ?22

One other thing, while it will be brutal, the film review for Nico should help him mature into the QB he can be

A 22 year every third year will not make the cut. Micro managing a talent like Nico is a mistake.. They let him play until the Oaklahoma , Then we got something elese.

Nico's timing was late all night, holding on to the ball too long.  To be fair, the OL was banged up and they were getting to him, but he needs to factor that in and adjust.  And I am on record saying we did not call enough screens/quick throws, every play too too long to develop.

It's true they burned us repeatedly on crossing type middle of the field 10-15 yard routes in the first half, but we adjusted nicely at halftime.  Did not see too many of those second half.  Heupel does make good halftime adjustments typically...run game was a lot better second half also.

DL overrated?  I would not go that far.  They definitely were not the problem last night. Though it was not perfect, we largely shut down their running game, and we repeatedly got pressure on the QB.  If not for his scrambling and then ability to throw on the run, we could have held them under 10 IMO.
