Yeah, by the letter of the law, Vandy was robbed. Clearly there was a whistle and that play should not have been reviewable. If instant replay included audio, this game would still be going on.
But it was only just that it ended as it did. There's no way in hell that play should've been blown dead. Those officials are taught to let the close ones play out and then let the booth make the final call. Even if he had a clear view of the play, he should've let it go. He didn't have a clear view; he was screened by Vandy's falling receiver. Gordon's knee was a good 4-5 inches off the ground.
Besides, no Vandy player was even close to being in position to catch Gordon, even if they do claim they heard a whistle and slowed up.
It's only fair that it ended that way. But I KNOW I wasn't the only one having LSU and UNC flashbacks, thinking "here we go again."
