UTC's football coach got poached by Richmond just last Thursday, and as of today they already have his replacement in place.  And it wasn't an internal promotion, either.

No, but this tells me more about Blackburn than Arth.  Even before Huesman left he had to be prepared for this eventuality, had an internal list of guys he'd consider for a replacement, and be ready to spring into action when the inevitable occurred.  When you're at a place like UTC, you have to be ready for all of your successful coaches to move on to greener pastures before too long.  Before this, Blackburn had to hire two mens' and one womens' basketball coaches.  All have been wildly successful.  Hopefully Arth will be as well.

"search agencies" are a perpetuation of the paradigm. A legal way to maintain the status quo. :o

They are good so far as to allow a school to contact and gauge interest without the twitterverse going apeshizzle.

All a search agency means is: "I'll have my people talk to your people to see when we can do lunch." They are there to gauge interests with the prospective hire's agent to shield everyone. So the coach or AD can truthfully say "I have not been contacted or talked to by [fill in the blank]." They are supposed to vet the potential hire for past transgressions, idiocy, etc., but look at the hires UT has made going back 30 years. A good AD has his staff do all the homework and digging before hand. To me, a search committee is just another way of saying "That's too hard and will make me work and liable for hiring a failure. I need to blame the committee."
