-We haven't played a complete game in nearly a month -Hot opponent who has been nearly unbeatable at home -MSU playing for their postseason lives, have MUCH more to play for than we do Honestly, I expected to lose the game soundly. I wouldn't have been surprised if the final score had been reversed. But THIS? This surprises me. We look to be peaking again, and it couldn't come at a better time.

There was talk that Mississippi State was the team no one wanted to meet in the tournament. I contend it was the other team there tonight but no one wants to meet...

All this and not only did we win. We throttled them. After the home court initial excitement wore off, we imposed our will. I'm with you. Maybe the most impressive win of the year.

Parker Solar Probe. We are in the thermal vac chamber at Goddard and have been running a 2 week long ops test. However it has become a 3 week long ops test! Launch sched for July 31 of this year.

Oh yeah, I know a lot of the folks working on that at MSFC. That's going to be a helluva mission. Do you work with Ken Wright at all from MSFC? He's a big Vol fan. You probably don't, since Ken is on the science instrument side, but they have done a lot of thermal vac testing at MSFC also. I assume you are controls. Is the solar torque a big issue for you? Just curious as I have a lot of experience modeling those.

Yeah, I am the Guidance & Controls analyst on the Mission Operation team - I work with the G&C engineers. Ken Wright doesn't quite ring a bell, but I will have to keep an eye out for him. The solar pressure does act on the shield and any imbalance we have between the center of pressure and center of mass will build up as momentum soaked up in the momentum wheels, which are used for pointing control. Once too much momentum gets in the wheels (they can only spin so fast), we have to "dump" it via thruster firings - a momentum dump. We will have to do that routinely and I helped build the procedure for that. That is one thing we have already tested in Thermal vac.

I'm Guidance and Controls lead for a project called NEA Scout, which is a solar sail we are going to launch on the first flight of SLS as a secondary. We have to manage our momentum also. We actually us a mass translation device to do pitch and yaw, which in theory works pretty well. We shift the CM around in other words. For roll (axis normal to the sun) we have to use prop, but the roll torque is on the order of 10s of nano-Nm so builds up very slowly. We only need about 200 grams prop for the entire mission. Our wheels only hold 15 millin-Nms each and we have four of them. But then again, we are a 6U cubesat with a mass of 12 kg, so while they are a bit undersized, they are sufficient. Slew rates are slow after sail deploy (86 m^2 sail), but we don't need to slew quickly.
