Didn’t see that coming

All men dream: but not equally.
Those who Dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds
Wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the
Dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they
May act their dream with open eyes, to make it Possible.
This I did.

The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

Slimebaum predicted it on the morning show.  I thought about it a bit, and when the Samford Florida HT score flashed up, I figured ole Paul knew that Junior's win over the gators was overated.  Which it was.

I am in full Volsheimer's mode.

IF ONLY WE COULD PLAY THEM NOW!

I feel the same way. But I wouldn't call it "Volsheimers", at least not as I understand the definition of that term. I've always seen it as "We've gotten so much better since then, we'd beat them now". I guess we've gotten a little better, but that's offset a bit by the injuries. But they, OTOH, have gotten SO MUCH WORSE. Recall that they played bammer to a standstill the week before our game and looked for all the world like a top 10 team. They've had several collapses in the past, but this year might be the craziest of all. I seriously thought they were a playoff contender, or at worst a major bowl invitee.

I guess we dodged a bullet when we "missed" on Mullen.

Yeah, I'm aware of the difference.  I think we have improved more than you are giving us credit for, but yeah, in this case its mostly them collapsing.  You are correct that it was sudden and unexpected.  It reminds me of our collapse last year, but that wasn't as bad since we did not start from as high a level.  Their defense reminds me of Sunseri (shudder).

Mullen is definitely gone, and yes, we did dodge that.  They might have been better off sticking with McIlliwain a couple more years.
