If Saban's total guaranteed compensation is less than the average of the top three highest-paid coaches in the SEC or less than the average of the five highest-paid coaches nationally, the university agrees to pay Saban the higher of the two averages.

Also included in the contract are postseason bonuses: $75,000 for appearing in the SEC championship game or $125,000 for winning it; $200,000 for appearing in a New Year's Six bowl game; $400,000 for appearing in a national championship semifinal game; $600,000 for appearing in a national championship game or $800,000 for winning it.

As someone who lives in the state, I beg to differ.  Alabama is a proud 47th!

https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/public-school-rankings-by-state

Also 46th in quality

This is progress!  When I moved to bammer in the 90s, pretty much Mississippi was 50th in everything and bammer was 49th.

As far as I am concerned though, I live in Huntsville, recently picked as the best place to live in the country.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Huntsville is booming. It's now the largest city in the state (2nd largest metro area) and is starting to look like Nashville and Charlotte.  Road work and construction everywhere. A buddy of mine who retired recently gave me a lift to a medical appointment downtown at Huntsville Hospital.  He worked there for 30 years or so and said he didn't even recognize it anymore.

I have always been a bit ambigous about living in Huntsville, it's not bad but not that great either, but here lately its a great place to be.  I would have left long ago if I didn't have family in Knoxville, Atlanta and Memphis and Huntsville is about equi-distant from them all, but there is a lot going on here right now.

But yeah...lots of inbred crazy bammer turd fans also.

Well I’m also a new bammer resident. And I hate to brag, but my new hometown of Phenix City was recently named the 2463rd best place to live in the country.

Okay, I don’t know that for sure, but it sounds about right. I mean, we just got a new Wendy’s, so there’s that.

I loved Fort Benning, but I wasn't a huge fan of Columbus.

Please tell me that the company that employs you told you that they would quadruple your pay and give you house if you would move to Phenix City??

I mean, it’s not like there are a lot of great options around here. PC isn’t any worse than Columbus, and I’m on the north side (the “good” part of town). I got a lot more house for my money here, and taxes are much lower, too.

I’m also not a big fan of this area. But I love my job and the people I work with. I can stick it out here until I retire in 10-12 years.

So have you heard about the June 1954 mess?  Democratic nominee for AG (who would have been rubber stamped in November as the state was 100% Democrat back then) of the State of Alabama gunned down in broad daylight, no one would testify, the state declared martial law and disbanded the entire police force, which is almost unheard of in American history. Good times!

Yeah, lots of dubious history in this town. They even made a movie about it back in the 50’s. I want to see it, but can’t find it streaming anywhere.

That kinda reminds me of The Battle of Athens.  The local police and city govt of Athens TN was corrupt in the 30s and 40s.  Returning GIs from WWII got rubbed the wrong way and raided the armory and overthrew the local govt.  It's the only violent overthrow of a govt in the US by citizens, IIRC.  I think the corruption was linked to the old 'boss' system that permeated a lot of US cities back then.  I think Boss Crump was involved in this.  My great grandfather FLetcher Morgan was an atty and a state congressman and he took on some of this machine during his time.  His farmhouse near Dayton was machine gunned in response!  Luckily no one was hurt.
