This team likely would have indeed broken the home run record except for the run rule. It is very interesting to note, though, that the 97 LSU team only played 70 total games while this team played 73. I read on VQ the other day that we lost about 29 innings to the run rule, so in essence it makes the innings played fairly equal (most likely - I am not gonna research that stat though 😂).
It?s really a moot point anyway, because LSU set that record before they changed the bats. If this year?s UT team had used the same bats LSU did back then, they probably hit well over 200 HR.
Not to mention that they played their CWS games in the bandbox that was Rosenblatt. All those long fly outs and wallscraper doubles we hit at CSF? They?re LONG gone in Rosenblatt.
