He is ok. Big dropoff from McCarron. Town is the real deal, glad he is not going to Bama
Well, I certainly think there will be a big drop at QB, as AJ TD to interception ratio was really good, especially his JR. year when he threw over 30 TD's with 3 picks all year. (and yes, I know Bandit hates him) Hard to duplicate that. But there is no question Coker has talent, and according to Winston and the FSU coaches the stronger arm between the two. His lack of experience will be a major hurdle, and with no spring practice he'll have to learn on the fly in 7 on 7's and August drills. Not much time to learn to be a successful QB in this league, but hopefully he'll come around. BG

So the great and mighty Saban machine takes a reject FSU QB and then decides he is the second coming of Mike Shula?
Get back to me at halftime of this years game (and bring some food) and tell me about it. During last year's halftime, BG was happy, happy, happy! BG

Definitely a loss as he's about as good as a sure thing as you can get at QB, but the news today of Coker at least helps mitigate it. He's only had backup duty at the college level, but brings the dimension of running with the ball with a 6-5 235 frame, while also having an arm much stronger than AJ. He'll help amd has two years of eligibility remaining. BG

I don't know of any bammer fan that has confidence in Sims. And I know for a fact that in some cases there is a touch of racism there. But I do think he is a step down from AJ. He'll get more competition in the summer. Just announced Coker to Bama. BG

Actually it's 9 now. Luke Del Rio left Bama today and he was on this list of 10. Word is he has issues with Kiffy Boy Wonder.
Yeah, they told us a few days ago on BamaOnLine to expect this. Two rumors: You hit on one with his dad Jack Del Rio not at all liking Kiffin (can't say I blame him), and the second was he wanted a scholarship for next season and didn't get it. He was a non scholarship player who by all reports had done well. Not sure which is true, but possibly both. BG

Yeah, I'm well aware of your issues at QB. Although one of my bammer fans said he wasn't sure Blake Sims could "understand Saban's offense" (cringe). The potential problem with Sims is he isn't a true drop back passer, and is more of a runner (even spent some time at RB). and is a roll-out passer. That type of QB is not what you normally see in Saban's pro style offense. BTW, it seems the Tide will run some HUNH this season. Well, if ya can't beat them, join them. Heck, if nothing else I hope it helps our defense by seeing that offense in practice. They need it. BG

I'm not sure its true he could transfer and play right away though. I don't have any confirmation of that.
He is supposed to graduate in the spring. A graduate can transfer and doesn't have to sit out a year. If he does transfer, he would still have two years of eligibility. He's from Mobile, so for our sake I hope he does end up at Bama. The OP is correct on our QB situation. Right now, there is no clear answer who it might be and a concern going into next year. BG

Actually the last few years of the show they were from Ark. In the beginning they were from Tn. Never understood why they changed states.
Yeah, I think in the movie they were from the Ozarks in Arkansas. I can't say much about mountain folks, as some of my ancestors came from what is now Cherokee county in North Carolina in mid 19th century. BTW, they were mixed bloods. I had heard this but never thought much about it one way or the other until my sister last year showed me a picture of our great-grandparents in a book. They were both listed as 3/4 Cherokee, but I think that percentage is high as I always heard she was 1/2 only, and from that picture I doubt he was that high a percentage. We do have a much better picture of her when she was old, and she was clearly part native American. It also showed very much in my grandfather. BG

Yeah, that's great since the Beverly Hillbillies were from Alabama. Oh no, that's not right is it?!? Maybe they were from the north Georgia Mountains. Yes, that's it! The north Georgia Mountains it is! BG

Another example of Saban knowing what the heck he's doing. I don't like it but the results continue to show themselves.
To be fair, and knowing what color this board is, it's nothing different than when Johnny Majors got to know a Birmingham HS coach at Banks HS which was then the Hoover U of the B'ham metro area. As Saban met Pruitt on recruiting trips to that school, Johnny Majors met David Cutcliffe the same way. BG

Yep, he's very good and an excellent recruiter as well. Here's a guy that was only a high school coach at Hoover U. just a few season ago and Saban saw potential in him and hired him at Bama and Pruit made his mark. Jimbo made a great hire and promoted him to DC, and he did a great job at FSU in his only season. Excellent hire by the Dawgs.

Coaches in waiting haven't exactly been good things to be - see Muschamp at Texas and PH when he was at Maryland, for example.
Agree. I posted on one of the Tide boards that the only way I could see him doing that is for some guarantee on that waiting time. Although Smart is a Georgia alum, he's already turned them down a couple of years ago. I would assume that is the reason the rumor includes that title. The other obvious question about that rumor is why Richt would agree to leave after a short time. Some say that's his own plan, but if it is then it's news to me. The rumor is coming from so-called Georgia insiders, so who know if it has any merit. BTW, Bo Davis recently announced as the new USCw DL coach, and formally of Texas, Bama, and LSU is now rumored to have agreed to a deal to return to the to Bama as DL coach. He was formally with the Tide from 2007-2010. Don't think they talked to Coach O, but not sure why. BG

Will not surprise me to see O at Bama.
As of this morning, he was interested but had not a received a call. Those that should know say he will not get that call. BG

Some shake up going on. Some from Nick Saban and some not. Saban thought the offense should have been better, and note he called Kiffin in for a review of what they were doing on that side of the ball. Nuss got the message and from what I understand there wasn't a big push to keep him. On the other hand, I think Rumph left on his own free will, at least from what I can tell. Nick Saban is extremely demanding and coaches work virtually 24/7/365, so some coaches are willing to do this, and some aren't. From the names being listed as interested, I expect a coach to be named at least as well thought of as Rumph. A lot of candidates want to work for Saban, long hours or not, because he can help them move up the ladder in the business.
With Georgia DC Todd Grantham moving on (good for the Dawgs), you can bet Kirby Smart's name will be foremost in the the Dawg's minds for DC (very good for the Dawgs). Rumors are they will also offer the former Georgia player the title of Head Coach in Waiting and some don't expect Richt to coach more than two more seasons. If they offer that position I think there is a great possibility he'll take it with a chance FSU DC and former Tide coach and player Jeremy Pruitt returning to Bama.
Also, there could be more to come.

I'm not sold on him being a great hire but I completely agree that UT fans reveling in this news are being a little over-reactionary. In fact, they may change their tune if Kiffin flips a high-profile commitment from us to Bama between now and NSD. He's an excellent recruiter if nothing else. He's also a solid OC, very good QB coach . . . all of those things point to this being a huge hire for Alabama. The reason I'm not sold on it is because he has too long a history of thumbing his nose at NCAA recruiting rules and I do not think he and Saban can get along long without there being turmoil in Tuscaloosa.
But with that said, I think making the argument that Kiffin didn't do a good job in his stint as OC at USC is revisionist history. If Kiffin is able to ditch the personality baggage he hauls around with him and just be the offensive mind that he's capable of being, this is a very good hire for Alabama and beating them (on the field or on the recruiting trail) just became more difficult for Tennessee. Will that happen? Only time will tell. But I hardly think the guy who is among the top three coaches to ever coach the game of football (Bryant, Neyland, Saban) suddenly became an idiot.
Sitting here with the son n law, and he's said almost the same as you. You two are making me feel better about this. He is a d-bag, but since Saban doesn't allow the assistants to speak to the media except maybe twice a year he will be out-of-site, and out-of-mind. I can't stand listening or looking at him but he is a good OC. As far as potential turmoil, if there is any, it won't last long. Kiffin knows this too, as Saban will kick him to the door in no time if gets out of line. Maybe he might learn how to be a head coach. He better be all ears and no mouth. Like I said, I won't have to listen or see him. He makes me sick, but if Nick Saban wants him he know what's best and I don't. BG

This seems like a garbage way for Texas to handle the situation.
They could definitely handle this better, Vinnie. Their problem has been unity among their decision makers. That's how it always is, huh? Their President is reportedly a Mack Brown guy, but their Board of Regents are the true decision makers and they want Brown out. According to Burton on Texas' 24/7 site, they are in the process of letting their President know who calls the real shots so expect some more news soon. BG

I think he knows it. He'd be a fool not to. Chances are it will be official soon.
What we don't know as well is who will replace him - that is what I am more interested in. Saban did not deny that his agent did have talks with them.
Another thing. Yeah, Mack has to know because it became clear when his biggest supporter Deloss Dodd recently became the former AD at Texas. BG

Sexton has talked to them, that's not in doubt. If someone-anyone-is going to talk money, then his job is to listen. The "done deal" reports out of Texas is what has been denied. BG

Yep. I'm also a Rivals member as well as 24/7. Read the article. My thinking is this, whether or not Mack brown knows it, he will be stepping down....... I think this quote says much: "Mack Brown loves Texas and wants what's in the best interest of Texas and what's in the best interest of Mack Brown," one high-level source said. "I don't think it's been an easy decision. But he doesn't want negativity around the program he helped unify." BG
