I'm curious.. Why didn't you like it?
For you what contitutes a worthy performance? (Other than the circle drill obviously)

A much shorter list would be what I liked The opening. The Pride is NOT a JR high band which is what the level of that show was. Hell, Dobbins Bennett out performed them two weeks ago, and it wasn't even close. Their show designs suck, their marching precision is non-existent to the point I worry about the safety of members if they attempt their "standard" circle drill (since they haven't updated it in over 3 years).

Parts of it were cheesy and high school-ish. Overall I liked it, though. It kept me entertained far more than most of the Pride's halftime performances.

Agreed. It was cheesy with extra cheese but I gave them credit for doing something new. I guess I never really pay attention to halftime until the Alma Mater, but I did at least recognize this as something they hadn't done before. I'll tell you a band I love to see and hear is Notre Dame's Marching Band. Coincidentally, the guy sitting behind me on Saturday said that Notre Dame was the only other band he knew of besides the Pride that plays the visiting team's fight song during pregame.

This. http://www.youtube.com/v/kEy_ODwkOYI&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PLEDCD067C720BB7A8Just kidding. There's no comparing a traditional marching band with a D&B. Still, any band geek will tell you that what the Pride did Saturday night was cheesy beyond belief. I wish I could somehow un-see it. There is a small handful of major college marching bands in this country that have a long-earned reputation of being a cut above the rest. They are: USC(w), Texas, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Tennessee. It would take a lot more than a few years of mediocrity for us to fall out of that group, but in the past several seasons we have certainly not been living up to the standard that Dr. Julian set.

Dr J, as feeble as he was last homecoming, could teach these kids more than a thing or two. I didn't think I would at the time but I am proud to have been in the Pride under Dr J. He was a tough ole cus who liked his Bloody Marys and called me "country"

The football team is performing a couple of orders of magnitude better than the Pride. I have no pride being a former member of the Pride these days. Sousa must go!
