Quite intruiging.  This game franchise could go on forever as there's seemingly endless possibilities.  I wonder if they would tie in the Masons.. Masons vs Templars?

Why would Masons vs Templars happen.....masons and templars are part of the same fraternity.  Templars were members of Free and Accepted Masonery before they became Templars.  If anything it might be Templars vs The Roman Catholic Church.  I would be interested in showing you some historical perspective on the Templars and Masonry and the downfall of the Templars becuase of King Phillip of France who basically arrested the Templars because he owed them a bunch of money and did not want to pay up.  It is very fascinating on what the Templars created during the time from of 1000 AD to 1314 AD

The Templars in the game are fictionalized just like the Masons in Dan Brown's books. Vinnie was just guessing anyway, but the game takes liberties with history so history is only a loose guide.

Right, not historically speaking but within the vibe of the game.  Templars are basically "the bad guys"... And if the game were based in the Revolutionary war I assumed the Templar theme would continue, but assumed one's character would be on the American side...

If the theme were to be kept consistent then, the Masons would be the "bad guy" and I just don't see how that would work.  Then again, they may go in a whole new direction.  It will be fun to see.

That's true but I thought the pic looked like he had a colonial military jacket on.

However, him being a Native American makes sense on just about every level so I'd say that's what it'll be.

I hate to leave Ezio and Italia behind because that's my favorite video game storyline of all time but I'm starting to get pretty excited about the idea of a frontier AC that also plays out in Philadelphia and other such Revolutionary War era cities.

It should definitely include Philly, NY, Boston (and vicinity) and Yorktown.  If they want to get really ambitious, they could also include Charleston and Savannah.

I wonder how they'll handle this one re: taking liberties with history.  The typical gamer didn't know much about the Crusades or the Italian renaissance.  Heck, I didn't.  The games actually inspired me to do a little research.  But the Revolution?  That's something that every American kid is taught in elementary school.  If they have you offing General Cornwallis or Benedict Arnold, we're going to know that's BS right away.

A lot of the background stuff in the Dan Brown books is quite historical fact.  Where Brown gets off the beaten path is when he starts bringing in the Illuminati and some of his other more "out there" stuff.  While the Illuminati were a real part of the history of this world and that masons and Illuminati were coexistent...there was no "grand conspiracy" with the Illuminati and the Masons.  There were memebers that had membership in both groups but there was no "take over the world" plan.  There are some excellent books concerning this that present the hisotry in a very excellent way as well as I have access to some materials that unfortunatley i can not share due to the nature of their being a masonic resource, but versions of the same material are available in histories of France and Italy in particular.  

It is very intriguing to me how the Templars are viewed in many arenas.  The French basically villified the Templars through Phillip, but the Templars were ahead of their time in creating a banking system as well as an early "credit card" system for the use of people going to the Holy Land from Europe.

One thing I noticed yesterday about that last pic- look at those mountains in the background.  There is no landscape like that in the Eastern US, where the war took place.  Could that mean you start out as a Native American in the West, and are later drawn to the conflict in the East?

That art is terrific. This has the potential to be completely awesome . . . but for people into US history it also has the potential to fizzle out if the history and story are not done carefully. I will, of course, buy it and play the hell out of it. I hope it's as good as I think it can be.

I think it is going to be polarizing because to make it "pop" they are going to fictionalize, editorialize, and (to coin a term) "allegorize" the hell out of the story. It will be like "National Treasure"... either people will love it or hate it. In the Facebook comments on the photos I included above, I am already seeing anti-American sentiment from some foreign fans of the franchise who are upset that they moved it to an American setting... which is hilarious to me since Ubisoft Montreal is primarily responsible for the design of the game and the dev team is a multicultural and multinational melting pot of brilliance.

I find it hard to believe that the game won't be epic. AC-B was solid and AC-R was very good (although not as good as AC-B) but if they have truly been working on this since AC2 I expect something that is going to eclipse AC2. The other two were thrown together interim releases with minor functionality improvements.
