I think at that time(1946), my grandfather was probably the highest ranking officer returning back to Athens.  He was a Lt. Col.  My dad has spoken to me about that but I don't remember the details of everything he said.

Warren Giles (who started off as an enlisted man in Athens) eventually ended up a Brigadere General.
