Rome, NY?  What an awful place to be.  So, were you sentenced to Griffiss, or what was left of Griffiss at the time?

Griffiss was closed but the Rome Air Development Center (one of the AF labs) was still in business.  I unfortunately have been there several times for various activities.  RADC has/had several sites around the area (near Ava and Dexter to the North and this one to the the SW of Rome).

I was in my American History high school class and the teacher had the radio on for the announcement.

I was in my American History high school class and the teacher had the radio on for the announcement.

I was in high school American government class. Our teacher didn't have the radio on but a buddy and I were sharing Walkman headphones in the back of the room. I let out my own version of the Rocky Top Woo when he made the announcement and nearly got a visit to detention for interrupting the lecture. But then the principal used the intercom to announce that Peyton was staying at UT and I was off the hook.
