In 2012, UT gave up 428 points in 12 games. From 2010-2012, Alabama gave up 435 points in 40 games. 

This five-year stretch for Alabama has to be one of the most impressive displays of defense all-time. Over 68 games they have given up just 11.8 PPG and allowed 30+ points just four times (to get more depressed, consider that UT gave up 30+ points EIGHT times this year). You have to go back to October of 2010 to find the last time Alabama gave up 30+.

Man, do we have a long damn way to go to get competitive again.

Well you have to expect that...we had our worst D ever unless you count 1893.  As you (I think?) point out somewhere below, significant improvement this year should not be difficult.
