Heard some radio guys talking about gettting "Shawshanked" the other day. They were talking about that list of about 5 movies that every has that when you are flipping through the channels, you have to stop and watch. For me, old war movies almost always stop me and I have to watch. Some others for me include: Animal House, any Sean Connery 007 movie, True Grit, El Dorado, Shawshank.....Any of the three original Star Wars movies....Hard to narrow the list down to 5.

Any Bond movie or Star Wars movie and I immediately stop to watch, even though I own all of both on Blu Ray. Just can't help it.

Me too. I got sucked into the last 30 minutes of Empire and the first hour of Jedi. It took everything I had to pull away and go to bed.

There are very few movies that are like that for me. Shawshank is one. The Green Mile is another. True Country. Steel Magnolias. (Yes, I know. Go ahead. Scorn me. Revoke my man card. Laugh at me. I can handle it.)
There are a few others that would fall into that category but I never see them on TV — A River Runs Through It, Ol' Yeller, 8 Seconds . . . just about any old Disney movie from the '60s and '70s.
I was never a huge Star Wars fan. It just didn't do much for me.

Beat me to it. That's a big one for me. I always watch some of it when it comes on. Another Eastwood flick is The Outlaw Josey Wales. Also Saving Private Ryan (probably my favorite movie of all time, but it's not on TV a lot), Platoon and Braveheart. |

Ditto. I watched the first Star Wars movie and thought it was OK, but have never seen another one. Also was never a big James Bond movie fan. I've seen bits and pieces of some of the movies, but I've never sat down and watched one beginning to end. |

I won't watch a movie I own on DVD/Blu-ray on TV. Just general principle. I'll find myself watching, and then think "wait, I can see this ANYTIME" and then change the channel. So I usually end up watching the dumb, guilty pleasure type movies. Bill & Ted, Ferris Beuller, and the movie that I'm convinced is ALWAYS running somewhere on cable at any given moment: Drumline (AKA, "Marching Bands' Answer To You Got Served"  ). |
