There aren't many real guitar innovators left these days.  Tom Morello may be the last of them.  Here is one of his signature performances, a cover of Springsteen's "The Ghost of Tom Joad".  The awesome solo begins around 4:50.

The was (and still is) debate whether a Roger Waters-less Pink Floyd should even call themselves "Pink Floyd" at all.  In fact, Richard Wright, who returned to the band for "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" even called the album "essentially a David Gilmour solo record".  Whatever the case, "On The Turning Away" remains one of my favorite songs of all time.  Gilmour never wowed you with his speed or theatrics, but no one put more expression into their sound.  The solo at the end of this one typifies his style.

SRV in his prime.  I've posted this one before, but I'm posting again because it remains the most incredible solo I've ever seen.  Straight up guitar porn.

Up next:  Piano.

Here is what I think is Gilmour's best solo.  Pulse Concert 1994,  Comfortably Numb.  Its awesome.

This guy is kind of like Ace Frehley if Ace was sober and a genius. (Kidding Vinnie)

Most influential living guitarist?  My vote goes to Buddy Guy.  Every big name you can think of for the past 50 years owes something to him.

Duane Allman. When Eric Clapton tells a player to take the lead on Layla because it is too difficult for him, what else needs to be said? Duane played guitar on so many other artist's albums, it is unreal.

How do you have this conversation w/o Jimi Hendrix being mentioned?
