My thoughts are that at the rate the money is going on Oregon, it may be 35 points by Saturday. It was 21 just a couple of days ago.

I fully expect a beat-down of epic proportions. Any hopes that a new head ball coach would have a negative impact on Oregon appear to have been silenced by the Ducks' performance in their first two games. Anything less than a 4-touchdown loss and I'll be encouraged.

Well, 35 was the actual spread in 2010, so....    If the Vols can keep it under 20, I'd be very pleased.  Of course, I'd prefer a win, but....

I absolutely agree with this (bolded), but I'm keeping it to myself so I don't jinx it.

25 is what I was thinking for the final score. I'm thinking 42-14 or 42-17. Just play hard and learn from this experience. Things will get better.

Just not this Saturday.

Beating the spread is not a win, but it sure may indicate we're headed in the right direction.

I'll still be geeked up going into the game with the belief we have a chance.

As much as I would like to see UT pull off a jaw-dropping upset, I would trade a 72-0 shellacking at the hands of the Ducks for a win over UF the following week.

I would have to resist pulling my old VS username out of the closet and dusting it off if that happened.

Been a diehard UT fan for 60 years....but this will be like Grant taking Richmond and Sherman's march to the sea.

Sorry....I'm a Civil War buff.

One thing I like about this game is that Oregon runs pretty much the same offense we do.  But they've been doing it longer- so they've had to time to recruit for it, and obviously they're more practiced.  Even if they blow us out, our guys will get to see up close and personal what this system looks like in its optimum state.  It should be a great learning experience.  I hope our two freshmen QBs, in particular, pay close attention to Mariota.  Because they are similar types of players.

hunt for a championship so this game means nothing from a goal perspective. I would like to see great effort and offensive improvement (passing in particular) and it would be great if we didn't get embarrassed too bad. Like CW said, I'd love to upset Fla next week as that would be meaningful to the team and fans as a milestone along the righting the ship path. If I had to bet I'd bet the Ducks cover.

It's up to 29.5 now. All the money is moving in on Oregon. At 21 it was a line I would never have touched. If it goes to 31 it will still be a line I'd never touch. There's still so much in UT's playbook that nobody has seen, and I wouldn't discount the chances of staying within a couple TDs of them. I also wouldn't discount getting skulldrug.

It should be 27...but I am looking forward to  the game while under Doofus I would have felt a numb sense of dread.

I want to see if the team responds and how well.

But everyone must remember....

THERES NO SUCH THING AS A MORAL VICTORY!!!

This is what we really stand to learn in this game. If Team 117 is still fighting in the 4th quarter no matter the score, then I'll upgrade their chances of beating a ranked team sooner rather than later. That element was completely absent under Dooley, where falling apart at the first sign of trouble was a learned behavior.

Thoughts?

I think you guys should get back to a policy of WWFDT for every opponent. And for the record, I hope you guys do FDT.

Is an early start time for Oregon..UT has nothing to lose..If I'm coach Jones I use the huge point spread as a motivational tool before the game and set up a game plan to pound the rock and shorten the game..point spreads are great but it's still played on the field...Go Vols!! Beat the Duck Dynasty!!
