Thing is, even disregarding 10,11,12 today as an aberration not expected to repeat, it will be hard for him to separate himself from the current crop of great golfers. Tiger basically had nobody even close for many, many years. Jordan has Jason Day, Rory, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen as recent major winners and always in contention, plus Dustin Johnson when he is not too busy with other players' wives. Now add Danny Willet and several others to the mix, and it will be hard for Jordan to dominate, mental toughness or not. And on that note, no doubt he is mentally tough, but I don't put him at Tiger level. At his prime, Tiger made everything, and other than one PGA, never lost a lead.
Tiger wasn't able to grind out a win against a major field until midway through his career. When he was Spieth's age, he never won a major that he didn't have well in hand by the end of the day on Friday. He either won by 5+ strokes, or he didn't even contend. He became an excellent grinder, but it took him until nearly age 30 to do so. Speith showed that capability at the US Open last year, and nearly grinded his way to a win at the last three majors as well.
Also, I look at what Spieth did yesterday when paired with Rory. With Rory's physical skills and swagger, I would think he would be the most intimidating pairing you could ask for. Instead, Rory's the one that wilted. Remember when Tiger was in his prime, and anyone paired with him on a Saturday or Sunday in a major would just go away quietly? It almost looked like that.
Time will tell. There is certainly more depth now than there was 10-15 years ago. And the guys at the top of the rankings are all in amazing phyical shape (whereas Tiger's biggest rival Phil Mickelson was hardly a gym rat). I don't think anyone will win 2-3 majors a year again like Tiger was doing for a while there. But today aside, I still think Spieth's going to be the world's best for the next decade or more.
